How many tags do you...tag?

Woah bro I never knew people tagged so much. Lol if I do 20 tags I feel like I'm doing something over and beyond, but 250-500 wtf y'all some animals lmao. I gotta step it up!

I believe Social Blade has this feature too. It's a good point. Don't tag random things and don't tag what has nothing to do with the video. It's unjust and if you are caught out, your street rep will be dragging along the concrete.
 
I've recently started to max out the tag section, even if it's just with random phrases from the video, because even if it affects the video's performance by 0.001%, it still counts

Our Youtube brand manager stated the back-end algorithm places the most emphasis on the first 8-10 tags. It's important that those contain the keywords you want to be discovered for in search. The remaining tags decrease in importance.

I however like to include and optimize all 500 characters of the tags field. Even if their importance does decay exponentially to zero after the first 80 or 100 characters, I like to optimize seo to the max.

Those first 8-10 tags also determine (along with a bunch of other things) which thematic vertical your video and channel is placed in (and hence the likelihood of being placed in suggested and recommended). Anyone serious about channel growth should optimize the tag field.

When I do my tags I normally try to fill the tags up with the 500 characters like it sound like a lot, but my tags normally multiple words or phrases so after a few tags I'm already at 500 :)
