How long to make decent income?

Making money on youtube is great, but it takes a while to make decent money. I'm partnered with Vultra by Bent Pixels, and they do pay, and my contract restricts me from saying how much I make. But I will say that it is not much at all. Lol. I personally just YouTube for my viewers smiles Sorry if I was unhelpful. ~BetaFur

I've been in YouTube since 2011. It's been 3 years now and I'm still @ 1K. It depends on luck and determination to post original content.
 
There's more than one way to 'make it' on YouTube, but to me there's generally two ways. One is to do something original, build an audience and simply try and get a bunch of followers. You in essence become YouTube famous. To me that is the hardest way, especially nowadays. You might as well pitch your idea to a TV network and hope you get signed, it's a long shot and would most likely take a long time unless you're ridiculously good looking and immensely talented.

The easier, and I would argue, the better way is to go for monetized views in a niche you love. DON'T go for being unique. Find a niche that is not overly saturated but is already very popular and has lots of views, and make content with the intent to get on suggested video lists of big viewed videos within that niche. You'll quietly get rich with no fame, much fewer subs, you're just creating good content to get views and not trying to be a 'personality' to get subs. Lots of people say you need to post original content, I say the opposite. Make your content high quality, better than the original, but similar enough in subject matter you'll get on the suggested videos in the niche you're going after. You can fight your way to stardom and wait tables and hope and dream for that rare slot of success like everyone else, or statistically turn YouTube into big chunks of bacon and take it all home in a big wagon in short order. It's like the movie Moneyball, the success is not in the stardom and attention, but hidden in plain sight in the statistics that everyone has access to.
