How long to make decent income?

For most of the channels that have been around awhile, even if things went well right from the start, you're not going get the same kind of answers you are now. Back then, MCNs weren't really a viable option and the only way to monetize was via YouTube. The partner program wasn't open to anyone. You had to apply and wait for a long time. It probably took us 18 months just to get accepted into the program and then another 6 months before we were making what you consider decent money.

Thank you sir. Understood. Must have been heartbreaking to work so hard for something that could have probably been in vein.

Why heartbreaking? We put out videos because we wanted share them with everyone else. Monetization wasn't really a reality at that time, so the thought never really crossed our minds.
Very nice. That is the best reason to make videos. I need to think more thinking like that sometimes.

I get $100 a week, and it only took me 2 months to get to that. You can probably guess how much I can make a month xD

It doesn't have to take long at all. You could make three times the amount you just quoted in a single day within a year or so, just on Adsense. Most people teaching 'how to' on YouTube tell you to do something unique. I think the opposite is true. Stats are your friend. YouTube is an open book. You can use sites like Socialblade.com to see how any channel is doing, daily, monthly, etc. You can click on the graph under each individual video on YouTube and see daily views and see how it's doing. Study this stuff, see what's crankin' and what's not. It's better to see curves heading up on the backend than big views on the front end that taper off. If you want fame and lots of subs, good luck with that. If you want to make a lot of $$ with Adsense to give you your life back while having a blast doing it, pick a niche you love that also supports it with massive view counts. You want to find a niche with big view counts (millions and millions and millions of views), don't break new ground, the views prove that it's something people want to watch. If you get on the suggested video lists of monster videos, it's a 24-7 slot machine. But you have to make content that is very good, watch time will get you high on suggested videos and stay there for a while. I recommend making evergreen videos that people will watch over and over, not just watch once or twice, that way you create strong passive residual income which frees up your time too. Don't worry about subs like everyone says to, go for making great content to bring in monetized views, then the subs will come, but if not, subs don't pay you anyway. Study YouTube as if it were a million dollar job and it just might be, but it's too fun to be classified as a job! :) You have to enjoy what you shoot though, otherwise it's just a job, you need to let your passion come through.

It took me about 18 months to 2 years to consistently hit $500 a month or more (but in saying that, the time of year really affects that. In January for example, you don't earn diddly squat). Whilst there has always been consistent growth, if you put enough time and energy into and hit a corner of the 'Youtube' market that not completely saturated you will experience occasional surges where things just take off. That's happened to me a couple of times with certain videos (videos which I never thought would take off) have just hit the right nail on the right head when no-one else had that particular hammer.
