How long does it take to get recognized??

It depends on what you consider recognition. I bet you are stuck on 10k subscribers and millions of views. In that case you can wait a long long time. If you don't take off in the first few months it is unlikely that you will get the recognition you desire. I've been at it for a year and a few months at this point and just broke 380 subscribers. Growth will be slow or non-existant once you join the ranks of established youtubers that haven't taken off.

Not to say you can't re-invent yourself and blow up like a balloon. There are many stories of that too. Trying something new might get you into the views / subscribers you desire. You just need to be noticed by the right people, and liked. Shout-outs from high ranking YouTubers will lift your view and subscriber count significantly!
 
I've been making videos for about 9 months now, and I have gained over 350 subscribers over the past 2 months. I have one video with over 10K views, and it drives about 30% of my views. When you are in a niche, find something coming up that is going to be popular and do it as soon as possible. For example, I make Pokemon videos, and there is a new Pokemon game coming out on Nov. 21st. As soon as I get my hands on those games, I am going to start a Let's Play of them on my channel. If I get it out early enough, I can drive a ton of traffic to my channel because I will have my episode 1 at the top of the search. I don't know what niche you are in, but you could find something similar to that, and it would probably give you a lot of exposure.
 
Like a lot of people before me have said, it does happen differently for everyone. And there's a lot of key factors and things to think about that go in to making a good channel that gets recognized. I'm not a pro, nor am I even a big channel, but I do have some insight and hopefully can just say a few things that will help you out.

1. Every person on YouTube thinks they'll get famous- you have to make content that stands out from the rest (that's especially hard with gaming).
2. It takes time and a lot of hard work.
3. You have to have great quality content and upload regularly on a schedule.
4. Consider your graphics and thumbnails- those have to stand out and be eye catching as well.
5. Personality and camera presence is a huge part of whether people like you or like watching/listening to you.

I know these aren't any secret tips, but hopefully you'll be able to learn a little bit from them!

I'm surprised no one has mention your niche. It really depends on your niche. If there are very popular people in your niche then most potential viewers will first look at the well known channels. You can grow, but it will be slow because there are so many channels with the same theme.

My niche is small, but there are some big names in the community on YouTube. People who are interested in the niche will gravitate to the big fish and might take a peek at the small fish.
 
I think that is going to depend on each individual person. Each channel grows at a different rate for many different reasons. Hope that helps and good luck growing your channel!
 
Depends on chance and luck. Upload consistently, try different things. Share with your friends and family ask them to share and have their friends share and so on and so forth.
 
There are no way to answer it :p If you have well know friend on youtube already then this could help you to forward some traffic to your channel, otherwise patience is the answer for when you will be recognized.
