How hard is it when you first start youtube?

Took a quick look at your channel, and the problem may be the video lengths you are posting. Rarely will someone sit through an hour long video for a YouTuber they just came across. If you are not into the editing aspect of making YouTube videos, maybe you'd be better off gaining a following on Twitch or YouTube Gaming livestreaming? It's very rare that I post videos longer then 20 minutes, and when I do, the views/retention aren't as good as my more edited, shorter videos. People usually subscribe for you, not your gameplay. Just tweak a few things here & there, the subscribers will start to come. :)

Oh, and to answer your initial question, it is VERY hard to start out on YouTube. Especially for gamers nowadays (because there's so many out there). Unique-ness is key!
Thanks for the advice, really appreciate it, the videos that are over an hour long are livestreams from YouTube, once finished it automatically gets uploaded, but I do need to put more time into editing[DOUBLEPOST=1445969342,1445967273][/DOUBLEPOST]Thanks everyone for all your advice :wavespin:

I've been posting gaming videos on you tube for a year now but finding it really hard to gain subscribers, is it something I'm doing wrong or is this normal when starting out
When first starting YouTube, it can be kind of tricky at first. For me, it's been on a constant, not too fast and not too slow. For gamers, it can quite difficult nowadays because everyone's doing it. However, you have to find that middlepoint on your channel that makes you unique, different, and stand out from others. You just have to take it one day at a time. It's moreso about just staying active in the community, as well as staying active on here.

It's pretty hard getting a channel going. Also it's even harder for a gaming channel since there are probably millions of gaming channels. For a gaming channel you really have to try and be as creative and original as possible. Like yes doing lets plays is fun and easy. One thing that I think there just can't be enough of is good quality how to videos for some games. If there is a specific game that you really like make create how to videos. Those tend to do fairly well if you do a good job.

I'ts never easy getting subscribers you have to be active with the community. You must also log the same time into building your channel. It's not a time factor more of a personality.[DOUBLEPOST=1445983804,1445982896][/DOUBLEPOST]
I heard that the first 100 subscribers is the hardest to get. Then to 1000, and your channel starts to grow by itself.
Just make sure to check audience retention percentages. If they're low, they aren't entertaining enough or they're too long, so try to improve your content based on that. From what I can see, your videos are WAY too long. Most people won't even click on videos longer than 15 minutes.
I can't watch your videos right now because it'd kill my data, but if you don't talk, try talking in your videos. People subscribe to either talent/skill or personality. If one doesn't work, try the other.
Hope this helped

Agreed the first 100 is a fight to get then the next 1,000 really gathers the channel quickly. At-least that's what I'm hearing. I'm still in the process of building my channel and getting reactions, but I'm giving it my all.

Hard, very hard. At the start everyone needs to give shape to their channel and in the beginning this is hard. I mean, I had this troubling me for 5months and now finally I think I have shaped my channel, now to work on the video! There is always room for improvement so it will also stay quite hard :)

It is normal for 99.9% of the YouTube. It isn't just you. You (like me myself and I) don't have the mainstream appeal like others do that just take off into YouTube stardom. Welcome to the club and have fun. Or do the opposite, create threads and moan about the lack of subscribers and views.

One thing is for sure. If you are having fun forget about those pesky numbers. If you quit you KNOW you will never get there.

Isn't it really hard to be a Let's Player on Youtube? I thought I heard it is the hardest genre to get into. I think starting now is harder than it was in the early days or even pre Google plus days. Ever since Plus fused with it Youtube has pretty very unorganized. I also think the less customize layouts play a role. I remember people having cool looking channels and the art drew people in.
