How hard is it when you first start youtube?

Its hard to start bc nobody knows you at all so you need to stand out the best you can wether it be personality, comedy, material ect. Another tip is share share share, get that content to as many people as possible bc I'm sure there at tens of thousands of people willing to watch your material they just havent found you!

I've been finding it extremely difficult to grow my channel as well, but I think of it as a learning experience. Each video, my audio production gets better, or I learn to utilize a new feature in Adobe Premiere.

Honestly, while I'd love to have a huge audience, I'm glad that most of my future audience hasn't seen my first video, because I've learned so much and gotten so much better since then haha!

Part of YouTube's draw is that anyone can upload, so there needs to be some barrier to entry. If you can be critical, improve, and stick through it, chances are you will be successful... eventually.

Great advice...thanks[DOUBLEPOST=1445961969,1445961882][/DOUBLEPOST]
It must have taken me two years to hit 1,000 subscribers. I'm glad that I kept going!
Nice..I'd be happy with 100 atm

couldn't have said it better. we all start out differently but the key is always listen to what your subscribers want even if its just 2 or 3 active subs making requests bc they could share a video they love that you made and bring in more subscribers. Take my eating challenge channel for instance. Many of our active subscribers continue to share our videos bc we try our best to do what they want. A subscriber asked me if they could send me food for a challenge and we accepted and made a video of it. That one subscriber said they shared on fb twitter ect and its a good feeling lol. ohh and try to collaborate with someone! I'm sure there are many people here who would love to collab with you :)

Good advice, thanks for your help

Yeah normally I was going to make montages for my channel, but it seems like my audience is more interested in Photoshop tutorials. I'm beginning to take my channel in that direction now instead

Took a quick look at your channel, and the problem may be the video lengths you are posting. Rarely will someone sit through an hour long video for a YouTuber they just came across. If you are not into the editing aspect of making YouTube videos, maybe you'd be better off gaining a following on Twitch or YouTube Gaming livestreaming? It's very rare that I post videos longer then 20 minutes, and when I do, the views/retention aren't as good as my more edited, shorter videos. People usually subscribe for you, not your gameplay. Just tweak a few things here & there, the subscribers will start to come. :)

Oh, and to answer your initial question, it is VERY hard to start out on YouTube. Especially for gamers nowadays (because there's so many out there). Unique-ness is key!
