How do YOU get yourself out there?

Aside from "tags", I'm curious, how else do YOU get yourself out there?? Any smart, wise strategies? :)
My current plan is collabing with anyone and everyone who's content I enjoy and asking to exchange shout outs with similar channels. I may also send some of my better videos to bloggers and hope one of them is impressed enough to write an article.[DOUBLEPOST=1404200571,1404200496][/DOUBLEPOST]
Social media. Make a twitter (super helpful), instagram (not as helpful), and a fb (pretty much a dead site, but good for communication) to promote your channel. Self promotion can be annoying, but as long as you don't do it in a douchey way, you usually get good response. Twitter has helped me immensely. There's lots of up-and-coming youtubers, and people super obsessed with youtubers on there who love seeing new content. They're also extremely likely to share it with their followers as well, just try to communicate with people and that helps a lot :).
My problem with Twitter is I never know who to follow, plus I always forget about it hahaha a week goes by and then I'm like "Oh. right.. Twitter..."

So, from your personal experience, you feel like you've had a good amount of views from the tweets you send out? :)

Yep! Don't tweet out the link individually tagging people though (that'll get you marked as spam) but I have an auto dm that'll send my new followers a message automatically saying that I make youtube videos and that I hope they'll check it out with a link to the newest video. (I just started using this method this week and it's gotten a lot of positive feedback. Before that I had one asking people to just check out my channel, but when I introduce myself first, people are more likely to respond positively :) (don't ask them to subscribe, and they'll be 100x more likely to check your channel out) Just respond back to them and it all works. Also tweet links out when you post a new video, that helps with the views. :) but yeah, it's been super helpful, I've gotten to collab because of it and branch out and all kinds of stuff. It also helps people who are subscribed to you get a better view of who you are, and helps keep them engaged more :)

I don't really use it as often as I used to. If you want to expand your network look up youtube promoter accounts, and then follow whoever is following them and they'll follow you back and whatnot. On my promotional twitter I follow 7.4k and have 8.2k followers, and I found most of the accounts by finding similar accounts and just following their followers or following back. It's not the best method for a personal twitter (like if you actually want to read everyone's tweets) but it's great for promoting. I have an alt. account that I can follow certain people from so it's not as cluttered and for personal use. Twitter is super weird though

Makes sense, how many people have you collaborated with so far? Oh okay, that's a pretty good idea, about the bloggers thing, how has that work for you? :)

Lol, yeah, sounds like something I would do! Hahaha.

My channel has literally only been open for a week, but I've filmed 3 collabs with different people and have uploaded one of them. Haven't tried the blogger thing yet I've just read it's how many videos wind up going viral. I just need something that is blog WORTHY first which would probably be a music video at some point.[DOUBLEPOST=1404202015,1404201978][/DOUBLEPOST]actually no, 4 collabs hehehe one of them is coming out on thursday.

Oh yeah true, ooh the auto dm thing sounds good! Oh right, yeah, that's a better way of going about it, kind of "getting to know them" first. Wow, so yeah, from your experience, twitter has definitely helped you, cause I was kind of sitting here, being a little skeptical of it. But it IS kind of nice to know that you have had a good experience promoting your channel through twitter :)

Ooh see, that's a really good idea, looking up YouTube promoter accounts! I didn't think of that, but yeah, that's a really good idea! Wow realy, 8.2k? So, you spent a lot of time promoting on twitter then right? Would you say, that's where the majority of your channel promoting comes from?[DOUBLEPOST=1404202835,1404202439][/DOUBLEPOST]

Oh wow a week? Congrats! :) How does the collab thing work? I mean, I've seen it on 'Bigger' YouTubers (like, OlgaKay, Shane Dawson, I think I even seen PewDiePie collab, I've seen Jack ((from Jacksfilms)) collab, and Joey Graceffa just to name a few) collab with each other, but, they all some how get to each other lol. I guess it helps that they all live in Los Angeles (or surrounding areas at least).

But like, on here, how does that work? I'm over here like, "huh?" lol.

Just watch the video in my sig. I don't really... feel compelled to hold too tightly to realism with getting us in the same place or making it look like we are, but my ideas themselves are so bizarre that that may be the reason I can pull it off. But you know in that one it was just me in front of a white wall pretending to talk to a girl in her room. I felt like it didn't matter we weren't in the same place cause I come across almost as a creepy narrarator or something. Other possibilities are lying in grass (grass looks the same everywhere) or talking on the phone, you just have to create the illusion you two are interacting and be creative about it really.

Oh okay yeah haha. No yeah, I completely agree on all of that, I was just wondering, because when YouTubers say "collaborate", I'm just used to seeing it that way you know? So, I was like, wait, how does this online collab thing work? Lol. I was thining you skyped her or something lol.

But yeah, I completely agree with you :)

Basically go to random people in the street and scream your channell name to everyone. soon will get the word out. also people would want to know what you're screaming about...

Also basically.. spam your twitter newsfeed and facebook off your channel?

Haha, I don't know if I'm willing to take the chance of being institutionalized.

Yeah, that might be one of the most popular ways of promoting a channel. :) Or well, "might be" is probably not the right word haha.
