How Can I Get People to WATCH My Videos?

Finding forums related to your topic is key as well...
Find a community of vloggers that cang give input and discuss your channel...That's how a true fanbase is built.

I have something that will make your subscribers watch more: A schedule. Like a TV show, your subscribers will anticipate the day you upload and will watch more because they already know when it's going to happen. It's always great and now you can schedule your uploads on YouTube unlike before. All major youtubers have a schedule because it is very important and they work! So try it, you got nothing to lose. :) Good luck.

I've been thinking about this lately. I used to have a schedule for my different video series and also shows people could subscribe to, but what I was thinking is giving them those options means many people will only watch that 1 series and never anything else. In the case of a show they will only receive feed from that one show, and never any other series you happen to show, especially new content you're trying to promote. So I got rid of my schedule. I do think my newer, not-so-popular series are being watched more. The main series is not, but I think it's working for me because I'm getting people who want to watch my stuff because of me; not just because it's on a specific topic.

Thoughts?

So just to clarify, you have multiple series' on the same channel? And with a schedule it was harder to get people to watch them all?

Yep I have a gaming channel, so I have different games I play and also maybe 1 series / playlist for a game is 'how to' and the other is viewer submitted footage of the same game. With a schedule and shows, people come to my channel on the days they know I release footage of their favorite playlist or if they subscribe to a show they never see in their feed any of the other games or shows I'm doing. By dropping my shows and schedule I'm asking them to just watch my general feed because they never know what they might find. I think this is spreading my views out to more of my footage, which will help me draw in more people as all my videos are pushed up the search engine, not just 1 or 2 playlists / shows. This allows me to start up new video projects and ditch older ones, because the kind of viewers I'm going after are the ones who will watch all the stuff I put out not just the 1 playlist.

An analogy for a vlogging channel may be that you do rants and also maybe movie reviews. Having a schedule means the people who watch your rants lets say will be more likely to only visit on the day you do rants, watch the rant, and leave. It's worse with a show because their sub box will only have your rant videos; never the review videos. At least by dropping the schedule your viewers will be more inclined to watch your feed closer during the week to see when your rant video pops up. This means they'll be paying more attention to your feed each day, and are more likely to see your review pop up in the feed. If they really wanted to watch a video on your typical rant vid day, and they see a review vid instead they just might check it out! Not using a show I think has obvious benefits since the feed they receive will now show their favorite vids and also your other vids.

I've noticed that my viewers tend to watch mainly their favorite playlist / series. It can sometimes be hard to get them to watch a different playlist / series on your channel for whatever reason. Once they do try the new playlist most of my viewers tend to start watching that one as well.

The ones who don't want to ever watch anything but the one playlist / series I think end up leaving my channel, which is fine by me because eventually I'm going to get tired of that series and want to stop doing it in favor of my newer, more-interesting-to-me series, so in my opinion no loss there!
