Help: first videos, recommendations (pros and cons) on editing software, vloging style and promotion

Michael Beckett

Friendly, mostly harmless...
Free or there about editing software would be good, what do you recommend I have a (newish PC)

Useful suggestions on vlogging style might also be useful...

Hints and tips on widening promotion would be good!

I will introduce myself on the intro thread when I am ready to launch

To be fair introductions here aren't really about your channel but rather about you as a person. You don't have to have a channel already up and running to post an introduction to everyone.

Not really sure what you mean by vlogging style, vlogs are pretty much vlogs and to get into anything more specific really revolves around the person. An introduction would probably help people answer this because they would know more about you etc.

Best way to promote when starting off is to just stick to trending topics and news etc it's a good way to get initial traffic to your channel

Our staff was unsure where to move this one with it covering so many questions at once so I will leave this here, I would recommend posting some of the questions as separate ones in relevant forums to get the best responses :)

To answer your first question, for video there is Windows Movie Maker, it is alright for a newcomer to video editing and I recommend Audacity if you want to edit your audio.

TheBatteryChicken then I will look to put an introduction together, which might help people answer my generalised query on vlogging style. I will as you suggest pay attention to trending topics and news.

Thank you TheBatteryChicken![DOUBLEPOST=1405155544,1405155453][/DOUBLEPOST]Hello again Michael I feel I must compliment you on what a good name you have! I am sorry if I put your staff to any undue difficulty this was never my intention, I will look to divide my questions as separate ones in relevant forums going forward. :)

I will research around both Windows Movie Maker (I have Windows Live Movie Maker I assume this is the same thing?) for video editing and Audacity for audio. Your input is very much appreciated, kind regards.

Windows Movie Maker is free, Pinnacle VideoStudio is free I think and pretty good, I used it for two years..

If you are serious about video making and YouTube and want to make really good videos you could maybe consider saving up and getting a good video editor like Adobe Premiere or Cyberlink PowerDirector :)

well if your PC is new try SOny Vegas as your video editing software. For vlogging style just talk about whatever is popular or interest you at the moment.
For widening your promotion just keep making new videos and make them better each time.

Hi Tom Weller and MagetheEntertainer, :)

I will certainly check out Pinnacle VideoStudio and SOny Vegas, thank you for the recommendation. I will also consider investing in either Cyberlink PowerDirector or Adobe Premiere in due course.

Thank you for the vlogging style tip of focusing on interest and popularity of topic, I will ofcourse try to improve the quality of my content over time, the pursuit of excellence!

I'd think vlogging wouldn't take too much editing to do actually. If you practice enough, videos can become seamless, and youtube has that feature where they add a branding intro to all your videos.

Good afternoon fattmat, I have a branding intro done ready thanks to my friend Tori and I think I am getting slowly better on Camera, not sure I can do an all in one take that requires no editing yet, or even ever, but we will see.

Progress, one day at a time!

Thanks for considering my input ^^
