Giveaways are bad ?

Well, sometimes I would do a giveaway to thank my subscribers.
But the thing is. If I do a giveaway, a lot of people will subscribe to my channel only for the giveaway.
That means : Inactive subscribers. Nobody wants that. So idk if I would ever do a giveaway :/
i just don't want inactive subscribers.

Here is an idea for a giveaway - not subscribing to your channel, but gleam.io and there set it up and after that make video about giveaway in which you provide link in description and make short url to show it on screen (bit.ly and goo.gl are my link shorteners of recommendation).

you only have three videos. one line in the video is "so go and subscribe for free 3d intro's" what exactly do you expect? i don't know how you know they are inactive when you only have 3 videos. i am so confused lol

I dont think its ever bad getting more subscribers :) even if they don't watch your videos the number itself convinces more actual viewers to subscribe because it makes your channel look more well liked than others.

But yes what Loki Doki said. I think you should be focusing on getting a fanbase to do the occasional giveaway with. In that respect you are correct in saying there's not much point making giveaways if the only people will be randoms scouting the net for free stuff... but is this really true?

Picture this.

You see a video for a new guitar giveaway and subscribe, like and sign up for the giveaway instantly... Cause you love guitars apparently. It seems strange that the channel only has three videos, but you dont care. You want a guitar. A month passes. You don't end up winning which is a disappointment, but you notice really good videos, that you enjoy and find funny, popping up in your subscription feed and are like, "woh, who this be?" and then you realise it was that small channel you subscribed to like a month ago. Suddenly you're going "mwahahha" cause you've just found your way into the "original" fanbase of a YouTuber you think will be big.

All I'm saying is they could be inactive subscribers, or you could really captivate these people who thought they were just going to scam a giveaway out of you. Boom instant fanbase. Maybe. Perhaps. It depends on the angle of the sun.

OH! Before I forget, more subscribers gives your videos better ranking in YouTubes search results. Its a part of the Algorithm that calculates it. I say algorithm because I be sound fancy. Yis.

Generally, when giveaways are done successfully it's because the Youtuber is doing it as a genuine way to say thank you and giveback to their fans for watching and supporting. So when you feel as though you have a strong enough fan base that you need to show a big gesture of thanks, that's the perfect time for a giveaway. Generally this will be in conjunction with a subscriber or views milestone.
I don't think a giveaway will be detrimental to your growth or image as a Youtuber as long as you dont do one too early :) You might get impatient and really want to do one, but just know that the time will come. I did a 1k Followers giveaway on my tumblr account which seemed to be really well recieved by my audience- and I know it brought new followers in who are still active :)

My friend whos a music producer and mentor does monthly giveaways on his youtube channel. Giving away microphones, headphones and bunch of good stuff. What he does is if you want to participate in the giveaway you have to enter it by paying a small fee like 2-5 dollars. That lets him do giveaways more often and those who enter are usually the ones who are constant subscribers and supporters cuz noone who just wants to win something and thats it would care to pay u 2 or 5 dollars. + you see the information of the ppl who entered so you have their shipping address right away too.

I mean, some people are fine with "dead subscribers" but personally, it's not the most helpful and just a hassle. Some may not even join the contest.
