Getting in early on everything?

The problem with new games is that all of the larger youtubers get exclusives (get the game a week or a few days early) to showcase on their channel. This means that by the time you get the game, the LPer's are already on part 7 or halfway through the game. You can have success with newer games, and they do increase traffic, but its not exactly what you'd expect.

Indie games are great because not many people do them, and when an indie game for instance goes on sale on Steam, everyone starts checking youtube for gameplay footage. This will increase your subs quite a bit. I did a Kenshi LP and since Kenshi went on sale on Steam, I gained about 35 subs in the past 2 days because everyone was searching for gameplay before purchasing.

Edit: Granted, I'll probably lose them all when they realize I don't do LP's any more :)

As mentioned above, the bigger YouTubers get exclusive access, Pewds alread has access to Dying Light and so do many others, that game doesn't have a release date yet from what I'm aware of. I saw an indie game on steam a few months back get released, decided to check YouTube to see what it might be like, already people had stuff uploaded 1 year prior. It's like waiting at a train station during peak hour, I would always let the trains with people packed in pass until I found and empty-ish 1 or 1 with significantly less people. So my advice is to let the bus/train whatever pass and play the game only if you want to. I'm also really sleepy....

Personally I can see why games companies would release their games to big YouTubers early. It will help they grow in publicity and make more sales with their game, it only makes sense really :)

You can always message indie developers and ask them for a review code and they'll more than likely give you one since it's free publicity. Of course, it's much easier to do it when you're bigger but most indie devs will support everyone that gives them exposure, no matter how little it is.

Well that's not getting in early then...

@That Indie Game:
Sounds like a Greenlight title that has been around for quite some time before getting into Steam... That's not early anymore.

Getting in early on whatever is like uberimportant. It's next to impossible for AAA titles but very doable for indie and smaller games. You just gotta find the right ones. Before they hit mainstream attention like Steam...

Getting in early IS an advantage. But like others on here, I agree that there are two types of channels. In COD, channels like Tmartn and Drift0r are ALWAYS the go-to source for facts and news because they have it first, and they have it right.
Your channel has to offer something else. You SHOULD post videos as soon as possible on a new topic. My buddy TheUntouchableWolf went from 5k to 15k in less than 4 months because of the hype around GTA V.
So the big channels offer it first. You have to offer personality, a community feel by responding to comments, and other factors that big channels sometimes lack

I never said it was getting in early, I'm saying that you can't really do it, so it's best to just do content you feel like doing. You can be late and it might still help but not as much. For indie games, if you found the "right" 1s that no other bigger YouTubers are doing, than you've found 1 that not many people will look up, unfortunately lol The best thing to do, is just find games you want to play, if you can definitely try to find 1s no 1 else is doing or aren't done as much, but you'll be looking for some time now. Avoiding Steam might be a good idea too, since a lot of the games on their will have hit YouTube fairly fast.

Back when I first became interested on Youtube, I posted a few videos breaking down the most recent Halo 4 trailers and information as it came out. I don't have a lot of views, but the majority came from those, as that's what people were searching for. I tried my best to be one of the first to upload anything about the new information, and it seemed to have a large impact on how many views I got. So, yeah, getting in early is very important. I do agree with what was already mentioned though, some of the bigger channels do have exclusive privileges and such, so if you want to get in early on anything, try to aim for obscure titles or atleast news-related posts.
