Friend doesn't feel "photogenic enough for YouTube"

Pretend I'm Famous

Liking YTtalk
I have a friend at work who is immensely talented. She makes these incredible cakes and crafts for her friends, sometimes for a small fee. Most of them have these cool video game themes that I know are in high demand! I keep telling her that she should start a youtube channel showing off her cakes and offering how-to instructionals.

She's a wonderful, smart, funny woman, with two beautiful sons and an awesome husband.

But, she doesn't feel photogenic enough to make a channel, and I think that's heartbreaking :\

I'd like to send her some encouragement from the youtube community, and let her know it's not just me who thinks that's totally not the case. While boobs get views (I'm getting implants next month for that reason), that's definitely not the only thing that does, right? Quality, intriguing videos on cool subjects rock!

Thoughts?

She could also start with just showing her arms and hands starting out (find a good angle to watch her preparing the art) and do a voice-over. Then as she gets some positive feedback and a community forms, maybe she will feel more comfortable stepping into the light.

FOR THE BOOBS!

Seriously though...she could always make videos that don't necessarily show off her face or anything, maybe she'd want to do a voice over while she works on the cakes. Unless she doesn't want her hands to be seen either...

Smart man!

But yeah, at the end of the day, quality of content will always triumph on YouTube, so all I'd say to her is that the YouTube community, while there may be some trolls, is on the whole very supportive of one another, and that she shouldn't be afraid since we've got her back!

maybe she just doesn't want to create a youtube channel.
but if you feel in her heart she wants to, it's usually all about the attitude. i know many mums watch mum channels because their kids are in the videos and kids are cute so you can tell her to use her kids in her videos if she feels comfortable with them around. they can lick the cake mix spoons at the end.

ah thats a bummer. but yeah i hear ya! i know so many people that are uber talented either in comedy or in stuff like your friend but they are not feeling the youtube thing. some people just don't want to be on the internet. which i totally understand. hopefully you can talk her in to it but at the end of the day it is her choice.

I agree with what everyone has said here...that she doesn't have to show her face. Not only that...people usually tend not to care what a person looks like when they're making awesome projects. Of course, you'll always have that one troll, but more often than not, I doubt anyone would care.
It really sucks that she feels that way though. And I myself know what that feels like....especially with me being a female. I'm far from the prettiest face that ever graced Youtube, and even I have had a few comments of people calling me ugly and such. So I would hope that if she did have a troll comment, that she wouldn't take it personally.

You should give us all her phone number/ email and we'll all text her like "GET A YOUTUBE CHANNEL GET A YOUTUBE CHANNEL" and it'll make her get a Youtube channel. Well... At least freak her out a bit... But that's still funny, right?

If she's really interested in making a channel it would be sad if this held her back. I'm sure there are baking/crafts channels out there where people don't look like models. Maybe you could show her? Maybe she'd be interested in doing a test video first that she would only show to friends and family to get some positive feedback? But in the end she needs to be comfortable in front of the camera or it's not gonna be fun for her.

Same with what a lot of people here are saying, she doesn't necessarily have to show her face if she's uncomfortable with that, especially in her intended genre (arts and crafts), although showing a face on a video certainly doesn't hurt. And I agree with @SabrinaKom that maybe a test video would be a good idea to see the feedback!
