Fouseytubes contest?

I Love YTtalk
So there is this YouTuber called Fouseytube we is really popular and had over 3 million subscribers. He is doing a contest where he is giving away a bunch of video equipment for someone to win to be a YouTuber. They can win a camera, mic, macbook and more. This idea intrigued me and I have a lot to say about. So I thought I would give my opinion on it.

Although it does sound like a good idea, I feel like there a few things wrong with it. First of all, you have to like all his social media and re-tweet his tweet to enter. I saw many people in the comments saying they didn't even have an instragram or facebook but they wanted to enter the contest. This contest may just be a way of him getting his name out there even more. Second, there is no organization, he said you have to upload a video of why you want the equipment and title it Become be a YouTuber contest. I have no idea how he will find all the entries and many people are new YouTubers who many not know how to title it correctly. YouTube is just such a big platform, and with his large fan base, I guarantee at least one entry will not be seem by him. A better would be to have an e-mail address where people could e-mail there videos to ensure he gets every entry. Or maybe some other option, but to just try find all the entries, where could be thousands, doesn't seem like the smartest idea.

Another thing, I looked at the entry's and the people seem to fall into one of two categories. First is they those already have a few thousand subs and are using similar equipment that is he is giving away. Second, is the people who have never used video equipment and so if they win they won't know how to use, but I suppose they will learn. But if you are learning you can start with less fancy equipment and get almost the same result. Finally, I feel like it promotes the idea that you need quality equipment and a shout out to be successful. I think a lot of people commenting on this video agree, they feel that they want to make on YouTube on their own and not because some guy just gave them everything.

Overall, though, I do think it is nice of Fousey to do a contest like this, I just don't like the way he is doing it. If I were to do a contest like this, I would do it a little differently. But I'm curious to see what you guys think? Are you planning on entering? If you are a YouTuber who doesn't have equipment this could be a good opportunity. Go to the Fouseytube channel and watch the video if you are confused.

Although you win some equipment, there is no guarantee you will make it as a YouTuber, just because you have the camera etc!

I just see it as a way of getting free promotion - hundreds of people advertise for him!

Exactly. I mean there are thousands of people filming off fancy cameras and lot of them don't have large audience. But good equipment does help, but it is 2014, not 2009 and people are aren't going to take your seriously if you film off a potato.

It's a way to get extra followers. Sort of like "paying" for views in my eyes, because you pay for the equipment, and get 32492394723 entry followers

The thing is, the camera doesn't make you good, the computer doesn't make you good, it's yourself who does it. I've seen so many people say 'I have the new canon 70d now my videos will be amazing' well, all it does is records the video, nothing else :P If you think about it the majority of the people in it wouldn't overlook it like this, and since following/liking an all social media es required I always find this is a loop hole. There is no way they are able to check for sure they have done this, they don't know what the person's facebook is, or their twitter so I don't see any point....

He did say he is looking for people who are already showing themselves to have a lot of potential etc, so really he is aiming the competition at smaller youtubers who are around the 1k mark.

Personally though I think the guy is a twat and just fakes videos to get views so he can suck my left nut

I'd love to enter, but I just don't want to upload a video about why I would need the camera onto my youtube. It's just so different from my content that I don't want to become one of those Youtube channel's that has random things that are contest based.

I thought about entering but then I thought there is no point, I'll pay for it all myself eventually. I just really don't want to make a video explaining why I need it? Clearly it would be nice but I'd rather make quality videos for my subscribers than try and impress some guy I don't know...

I've slowly been working my way up to better equipment piece by piece
and even though a contest like this would really help out ALOT, I don't think ill be entering
It's nice & would help somebody out equipment wise and also im sure they could get a subscriber kick start from it as well :P

I'd say this is more for advertising.

A stunt like this is a brilliant way to show the power you have (influence).
Like say there's a brand behind these products or just he wants to work with brands/ agencies in future.

It would look very appealing to them to see that he has such an influence to the point were he can influence 100s - 1000s of videos talking about a product or service.
Often, viral-ity is in numbers, if you have 5,000 channels make a video saying why a product is so great that they really want to have it, no matter if these videos only get, on average, 2000 views each.

That is 10,000,00 views in a short period of time created around one of two products.
That sort of frenzy of views creates a sort of buzz around this as if it must be special if people are seeing multiple channels creating videos about it.
