For everyone that is using Channel Pages

I hope you get a chance to talk to a Channel Pages rep about this, because I'd love to hear what they have to say about this.

My guess is that this clause enables them to legally use their live site in whatever promotional material they may create (commercials, publicly broadcast demos, etc.) without users suing them for "profiting off their likeness" because said users' profiles happened to be featured in said promotional material. This isn't some sneaky backdoor scam.

Anything beyond that would be indefensible in court, as a clear abuse of the clause/contract.

What are people afraid of, exactly?

I think that people are scared that they will be used to advertise the company. For example: What if the company takes a stand on something i don't agree with and use my likeness to help further their goals.
 
I never knew something so horrible could actually exist. That's not even horrible, that's.....evil.

Ok, I suppose that's reasonable. Should a company I'm affiliated with turn out to be morally incompatible, I wouldn't want them able to use my likeness either.

That said, I feel like at least some of the response in this thread is a paranoid misunderstanding of the clause, as if Channel Pages is going to film you from a surveillance van parked outside your house and somehow profit off that.

The language they use is absolutely standard for someone potentially appearing "on camera" or something similar. Actors sign away this right all the time. On the same hand, the "I will not sue" clause can't actually stop you from suing if there's been a genuine breach of contract or infringement on your rights.
