Maybe so, but man, the 15 copyright strikes he will get is really gonna hurt him
Content ID claims and DMCA claims are COMPLETELY different. If you see my picture above, you can see even a "block" policy is generally harmless unless it's worldwide then you just have to delete the video and you go back to normal.

When the copyright holder files a DMCA, you get a copyright strike (this is a manual process the copyright holder has to do). They generally file a DMCA using this form: http://www.youtube.com/copyright_complaint_form :)

*facepalm* he`s not going to get 15 copyright strikes...
If he gets a content_ID match it means the publisher has decided to make money off the videos instead of taking them down.
I filed 3 Content iD claims, and the kids channel shut down. So based off my prior experience, I expect it to work like that every time

The top of the form said Content iD claim, so I guess Youtube doesn't differentiate in the process
Which form? Sorry, I'm probably coming off as an ******* to you lol :p Unless you applied for Content ID and were approved here: http://www.youtube.com/content_id_signup you won't have access to Content ID tools.

When you use http://www.youtube.com/copyright_complaint_form - you are issuing a legal DMCA notice to YouTube and they will remove the video and give the user a copyright strike (do this 3 times and the user is terminated, which you did). A lot of people get confused with copyright strikes and Content ID claims so don't sweat it

Lemme dig through my Gmail and find the email from Youtube

So the first was a Content iD claim, it was a promo I created for a site I co-run. The other two were DMCA.

Content_ID? I find that hard to believe... so you have CMS access then?
I've had a history of my animations/promos being stolen, so I talked to my advisor from Machinima and he said that I should email him every time I put one up and they will handle the claim.
