I tend not to comment directly on my own videos unless there's something I've noticed in the video after I've uploaded that I wasn't able to address in the video itself or might get lost in the description. With the "pinned comment" tab, that might be another way of increasing engagement right away, so I don't see any issues with it.

It helps with SEO in that sense, that the algorithm filters not only by clicks, but by interactions - you liking your own video, commenting it and sharing it is quite a push for a very small channel. I mostly comment on my own videos to get higher viewer interactions (For example I write : "What do you think about that topic ?") because I love interacting with viewers.

I use it to say:
  • thank you for Milestone's in views and subs,
  • to update them on the next episode's progress,
  • to ask them their opinion on something specific in the video
  • to let them know of any hidden, Easter egg things to look out for in the video.
I think it's great, especially if you post slowly like me.
