FCP7 is still industry standard. Perhaps they're confused.

They are very confused. I see FCP7 used on smaller projects, TV shows and such however, I might be wrong.

I like FCPX - use it all the time. Does everything I need, and more, perfectly. I have no need to change it for anything else.
