Easiest / Hardest YouTube Content to Create?

Daily vlogs/let's plays being the easiest. Basically, anything that requires minimal editing.

And for the hardest, I'd personally say animation. It's just not a fast process.

Let's plays are by far the easiest.

The hardest would be people who make short films and stuff. I can't imagine writing scripts, planning shoots, getting actors together, etc.. It's crazy. Even harder than that is people who do effects-heavy stuff like FreddieW's old stuff.

It's kind of the opposite for me. I'm not naturally very techie, so game videos are really difficult when I do them. I agree with @darkstarmedia in that you have to make sure multiple things are recording, sync up the audio, etc., and with the massive file sizes that come with it everything takes a lot longer too - and you end up with tons of raw footage (which I do try to cut down as much as possible myself). Plus editing is still moderately tough for me as I'm quite new still.

On the other hand, I love all the planning involved in pre-production. With my notebooks and my planners. I live for that stuff. It can be difficult working with other people (to get everyone together at the same time and to manage other humans apart from yourself) but just organising it all is so much fun. It's my goal to work on effects this year, too.

Then occasionally there'll be "easy" videos where it's just me talking, even if it was scripted/needed props sorted/etc., and Editing Me wants to fall to her knees weeping and thanking Past Me :p

Totally agree on animation though. That's definitely the hardest and most time-consuming tasks (although one of the most popular!). My outro card animation is only 17 seconds total and took me so many hours of agony and thinking "it'll be worth it when it's done" in a mantra - I can't even imagine doing a whole video. Mad props to the people who do.

My understanding has been that animation is the most difficult because of the time investment. I feel that music covers are also pretty difficult...I have to select a song (easy), then arrange all the parts (not quite so easy, depending on what I want to do with the song), then record the live instruments, program the midi instruments, adjust the midi in my DAW so that it sounds relatively "real", and then after all of that, I have to record whatever video. Then I have to sync audio to video.

Based on the length and frqeuency at which many vloggers and Let's Players can produce content, I'm guessing it's not as time intensive per video. Not saying that there is no time intensiveness involved...just, some people cannot create 10+ minute videos every day or every other day...it's just not humanly possible, lol.

I think short films can be the hardest. I'm just getting started with it and one project I'm working on is already 3 weeks in the making and it's not even ready to film yet I don't think. I currently am making drone videos and some other stuff and even those can be time consuming to get the best shots and edit out all the "crap". Blogging with no sFX and just sitting in your bedroom is probably far easier, but it all depends on how much effort you are putting into the project. Even a simple vlog could take hours if you are using special effects to emphasize your points. It's especially hard if you are doing everything by yourself. Nowadays the largest youtubers all have teams that help them with editing, background YouTube stuff, data wrangling, etc. It really is a full time job if you want to actually grow.[DOUBLEPOST=1452366021,1452365866][/DOUBLEPOST]Also you need to be consistent. If you make a really great quality video with over 15 hours of editing in it your audience will grow to expect that of all your videos and you have to decide if you can actually commit to that for every episode or not.

I'm not sure about the "hardest." I think it's hard to grow a channel in general... But I do think some content takes a lot longer to make than others.

I think animation, short films, and actual music videos of original songs probably take the longest time to make. I can only really relate to the music videos... A lot of people tend to forget that artists need to create and edit the music for their music video, too. Sometimes it takes weeks or months to write and record a song. Whenever you hear a song that you think sounds cool, just know that the artist probably sang it 2000 times (not exaggerating...) and edited hundreds of takes together to make it sound that way... The actual video part doesn't really take that much time to do in comparison to the audio, but it's an extra step. For me, the most time consuming part is making musical backing tracks. The rest is usually pretty quick. I should probably spend more time on the video step, but I don't have the time and energy for it.

I think the fastest videos to make would probably be let's play, tutorials, vlogs - anything that just requires a person, a setting, and talking. I script and practice my tutorials before I film them, and a video is usually done in an hour or two. That's much easier than dealing with audio and backing tracks! ^_^

YouTube seems to reward those who can produce content on a frequent and regular basis, so trying to produce more time consuming content on a frequent basis becomes more taxing than producing less time consuming content on a frequent basis. I think there is less competition for time consuming content, but I'm not convinced that aspect outweighs the amount of time needed to create the content and YouTube's rewarding algorithms. I think YouTube has identified some of these issues, and I'm hopeful that they will add something in the future to help creators who cannot easily produce frequent content.... ^^

Easiest is vlogging, get your phone, talk and stuff and upload it right away. After that gaming would be second easy!

The hardest are definitely short films channels, with the effects and time put into each video its really a hard thing to do and stay focused at!

The easiest have been vlogs and gaming videos. They are just easier to edit but the hardest are skits or anything with effects in it.
