Does renaming your channel alert your subscribers?

Oh I guess that must be a glitch in the system?
No, it is not a glitch, just a YT rule. You get ONE custom URL, that's it. So even if you rename your channel, the URL doesn't change.

Also, your marketing training is of course correct, rebranding a existing, well established brand is difficult. It will take a lot of time and effort (and for companies, thus, money) to market the new name. On Youtube this is a bit easier, as you can just make a video about the name change and bam, you're done.
The biggest Youtube rebrand I've seen is Danisnotonfire, who rebranded to Daniel Howell. He has been a Youtuber for 9 year and his old branding will probably haunt him forever :p

That's crazy, that you can't update your url. For me luckily I am under 100 subs so it may not be an issue since I am not able to choose my vanity url yet. Also rebranding can be a bit of a tedious task since you have to update all your graphics and apply them across all your media. Graphics is a time consuming task in itself. I just wish i used my first n last name. It keeps things versatile.

Ive rebranded before with no ill effect. You could always publish a video warning subs of the upcoming changes. Maybe even use the opportunity to get some feedback/ideas from your subs and let them be a part of the rebranding.

Oh Great ide ILYT! I really like the idea of getting the subscribers involved for ideas.

Just an observation. When you change your channel name, and it is drastically different from the old one.
i.e. original name was "Big Red apples" and you changed it to "Small Orange Oranges"
There's a period where after you've changed it people can still find your channel even if they searched in the search engine "Big Red apples."
but after a while the search does not bring up the channel, unless you type in the current name.

I noticed this from a few channels I followed. They drastically changed their names and I was able to look them up for a few months, then no longer, unless I searched for their new name.

Maybe doing a video explaining the name change, with that name change in the title of the video may help original subs/viewers find your rebranded channel.

If anyone has observed anything different, let me know! would be interesting to have this "observation" confirmed
