I feel like i'm the only one wh doesn't just want to gain subscribers from collabing. Like usually I would be super picky and only collab (in person or just with relating videos and shouting each other out) if that person seemed cool and I'd actually want to be their friend. But it has never ended out how I've hoped and its just ended up in either a lot of drama or just not ever hearing anything from the person you collabed with once the videos are posted. Youtube just seems to be like a number game at this point, sorry if this came off ranty but I was just wondering if anyone here has had a good experience with it? I do make lifestyle/beauty videos though so that may be one reason collabs aren't very fun.

Ultimately if you aren't happy with what you're doing then people are going to notice it. Just take a breathe and take your time with what you're doing. But from a person who spent a decade running a IT Solutions business, if you're looking to make this a business there will be a time when you'll have to work with people you don't want to get past a milestone. It's really all how you want to take this.

It's definitely different for me since I do gaming. I prefer to collaborate with people I genuinely enjoy playing with, so it's fun for me. A lot of other gaming YouTubers are all about the numbers though, which to me is just dumb.

I have to say though, I have been that "a lot of drama or just never hearing anything from the person you collabed with" but that's mainly because some things in particular get under my skin, and I don't know how to let people down easy.

Yes - definitely. We collaborated with other small Japanese channel (MaaikeinJapan) and now we are friends. We collabed and with other much bigger channel - but we didn't become friends as it turned out they are an outlet of a business company (and I didn't like their SEO strategies). So the collabs are like real life.

But if you are purely after numbers and profit - yes, why not - YouTube is a buisness after all. We just do not play this game but everybody is free to choose strategy.

I think it just makes me uncomfortable working with people who don't have a real passion for youtube and are driven for fame rather than having fun with things. I love working with genuine people but its a lot harder to find trustworthy people than I'd thought. I've never done any sponsorships/been partnered or anything like that, but do you think its of the same nature? All for the sake of business rather than any real connections or passion..

I am very strict about who I've worked with throughout the years... Most recent collaborations were with WeKanGame I joined in on an episode of Sims and an episode of Strife. I also did weekly collaborations with rumandapples for a long time on a podcast. Lately I've been doing some work making videos with/for Tech Solid and I'm loving that... If I can't have good chemistry with someone I won't collab with them.

I Think there's possibly a break down where you want to find friends and want to meet someone whose passionate about there hobby or career. Just a thought but when you're looking for people do you have a criteria? if so would you mind breaking it down for me? What breaks down most people is they look for friends instead of people who are and have been enthusiastic about what they do. Not saying you can't make friends out of this but a good friend is built a common interest and a best friend is strengthen through that interest. Sponsorship is a beast in it's own but you can find more common interest with people who have that mind set, because it becomes a career after your potential to make money takes place. I've not dealt with sponsorship here, but I've had to with my business. Companies will pay a good amount if you use their products or pass out items that have their logos on it, eh he sponsorship sent me on a few trips to Europe. But that's really deviating from the point.

I wouldn't really know what to say, because I haven't had the opportunity to collab with anyone! Lol.;)

I enjoy them, but as you said, you really need to find the other person that fits your style... Like this, even after posting the videos you will still be in touch and can easily become friends.
You can easily test the compatibility before recording, just by a small chat and doing a test.
If you see it doesn't work, I don't think it's worth doing a collab just for the numbers.

I've done a few... Personally I really enjoy making videos with other people physically. Having them come over and sit down and do something. I really hate doing videos with people half way across the world that suck at communicating hahaha

I wont lie though, I do enjoy the extra exposure from collabing with other YouTubers.
