Do NOT reply to hate comments.

I'm at this point where I only have time to respond to a couple comments per week. I ignore the negative ones and let the community deal with them - funny, I'll usually have people defend me.

The concept that ignoring a troll makes them angrier is rather silly, as most people who are being insulting or actually trolling will probably forget they even left the comment within a matter of minutes and be off to sh*tpost elsewhere on YT.

Maybe you'll feel better by not responding and making a giant hassle as a result of the response, but few people actually sit there clicking refresh every 30 seconds waiting for a reply. Notifications exist for a reason. I'm of the opinion that "not feeding the trolls" in hopes of starving them is a giant myth. A troll or person who's upset and want to vent/insult will feel gratification from merely leaving their comment, whether it is ever read or not. If anything, responding to the comment can make both you AND the troll angry after a bunch of stupid back and forth (alternatively both of you can feel smug that you "won" the exchange), but you're not somehow magically getting a "one-up" on a sh*tty comment by ignoring it.

Also, until you start getting hundreds of thousands of views it's not that hard to monitor comments. Skimming them takes no time at all and you can set up a filter to catch certain words as it is. Assuming you care about reading/skimming the comments you receive to begin with, it's barely any additional effort at all to click that garbage bin icon that rare time that somebody leaves a trolling/insulting comment. I mean it literally takes 2 seconds per comment, and it's not like you're going to be flooded with hundreds of insults every day unless you've created a channel that gets millions of views where most people hate you.

And if you're getting millions of views weekly, then you probably have better things to do than spend all your time reading the comments in the first place.

Never feed the troll is absolutely right, or u can answer or point out the comment in your next video, great example to gain something from his stupidity :D

I completely agree with this. I think ignoring them does nothing. Personally i think removing it is worse though, as the few times i've disagreed with someone and had a comment remove because of my opinion it just upsets me more.

Most of the time I'll try to turn the hate comments into constructive criticism. Instead of removing them and feeling proud of myself for effectively hiding from criticism, ill respectfully reply and get as much about what the person did not like out of them and better myself that way.

And the people who are still dicks after i reply i take what i did get from them and apply it in some way.

I'm having a hard time seeing your perspective actually. Being a d**k to the point that somebody would want to delete your comment while giving actual criticism is extremely hard (and tends to occur when the thing being dickishly criticized is actually downright awful and atrocious).

You're not hiding from criticism by deleting crap comments. You're merely wiping crap off your floor.
"Your voice sucks and you're ugly" for example (just one example out of countless) is not a criticism of any kind. The more generic "This sucks" is also not actually criticism.

But yeah, if people are legit giving you criticism and are just insulting you while they do it, that's completely different from just trolling or pure insults.

Well the few times I have been removed i wasn't being mean in any way. I disagreed with a persons opinion and ask them to further elaborate on their point of view because i just didn't understand. Both times where by the same person.

And even with the ones where people are being a straight up d*ck. normally if you just comment calmly back and talk they will actually have a conversation, Or at least thats what i saw from the few who comment on my videos. But there are always exceptions and thats why i said normally. There are some trolls who are just d*cks. I found that those are actually kind of rare though.

I personally think that you should respond, but don't click "reply". Crtl-C his comment into a new comment, mention him, then in that comment tell him/her why you disagree with them, in a polite manner. Then you can reply to that comment all you want.
