Hey everyone, I'm BarackObeezy, the guy who penned that lengthy article about Maker on my blog.
I'll spare the conflict that may or may not have subsided to give a bit of commentary on my part.
I think you might have misread this. What it basically entailed was that any third-party claims (i.e: not by Maker & Friends) that existed, say, a Content ID claim, will remain once the account is released from the network. Unless you agreed to sign over administration rights regarding distribution and copyright, they don't have any claim over your content. They could in Ray's instance, where the deal was 50%/50% ownership over the intellectual property of his series, had he signed. Not in my case, though. They just unceremoniously released all my videos from their CMS and therefore the ads were no more.
I got my bet on Machinima. I would presume you either have to be in deep with Maker or on one of their new contracts (which is way more restrictive than what I had, to be honest) for them to pull that s**t.
Anyways, I've heard FullScreen is great too. A few months back when I was contemplating leaving Maker I applied to FullScreen's CreatorX network and got offered a Arcade partnership, which seemed like an upgrade. It was too bad one of their recruiters turned 180* when I applied again six months after their initial offer. They might've seen my fallout with Maker and changed their mind, who knows? With all that said, they're probably the only major gaming network left that hasn't had a scandal of this magnitude.
Of course, with TGS and its parent Maker you've got those fancy tailor-made contracts. Not with RPM, where you just get the cookie-cutter templates.
Reddit? Heh, I'll pass. I do appreciate you looking out for people like us though.
