Deleting hate comments vs. responding to them

Hello all!

When it comes to people leaving hate comments on your videos, do you prefer to delete it and possibly ban the user, or do you respond to it?

Right now I have about 5,000 subscribers. I rarely get hate comments, but sometimes I do, and my initial response is to respond in a witty manner.

In your opinion do you think it looks good when some of your favorite youtubers respond to the hate, or would you prefer them leave it alone or delete it.
 
I think you're handling it the correct way. That's a nice amount of subs, and haters will come with the territory. Since my channel is children-oriented, anything with inappropriate words is filtered out automatically (I personally set up and maintain the filter).

I usually assume the haters are immature kids who are having fun (like a crank-caller), but occasionally I get an adult who genuinely is angry about something. I give them calm and well-reasoned responses. If it becomes obvious they are just doing this to troll or get attention, I will ban or mute them, but that is very rare. Once they see they're not getting a rise out of you, they will shut up or leave. And quite often my loyal viewers will chase them away for me before I even read the comment!
 
I don't get a lot pf attention but i'll just be witty when it happens unless they start doing s**t like flame countries and all that
 
I open the comments on two tabs. In the first tab, I delete the comment, in the second, I ban them from my channel. I don't have time to babysit people who can't behave or are looking for attention.
 
I'd like to say I'd come back with a witty response too, but I really suck at that. So I'd be limited in choices. I wouldn't want to delete the comments because then I'd be worried people would see me as unmanly or whatever, and at the same time, I don't want to leave them there and not respond, for the exact same reason. I guess I'll respond to trolls with a 'thanks for watching' type of response, while if anyone has a legit problem, I'll give them a legit answer.
 
'When' I get comments, an they end up being hate 1s I just say, "hey thanks for taken time out of your day to leave a hate comment on my video, glad you were thinking of me." Then I usually tell them when exactly my next video will be up so they can come by then to hate as well haha :D
 
Yeah i delete hate comments too because i don't want to look aggressive to other viewers also i think, there's nothing beneficial that would come out of having an argument with someone. However if someone is saying im stupid because of something eg. "you missed it" i would correct them and possibly wittingly insult them at the same time lol
