Commenting Won't Help You, No Matter What

Same thing happened to me twice lately. Massive amount of likes and comments including from the youtuber who's channel it was and no traffic or if there was it was no different to what I normally get so standard stuff. I also thought it might help people click to look but obviously not xxx

(for me, If i see a person who's commented and they have a youtuber-ish name and a photograph of themselves I'll check them out anyway.. lmao)

Commenting DOES help you.
I made my first 100 subscribers just from tons of top comments on my old channel.
Once I started producing videos, I already had ~100 views on every new video, with 99% positive feedback.

I just think it's kinda weird to comment to a video expecting to gain views and subs from there. It feels kinda fake and like you're not really commenting on the person's video or leaving a witty remark or answering someone's question without some sort of personal gain.

Again, when I comment, I do because there's something worth commenting about. I don't do do it hoping someone clicks on my user name, nor do I really care to click on anyone else's user name no matter how epic the comment is. I'm just responding to a comment or video.

There are much better ways to grow on YouTube. Commenting is will help you grow but it won't be very fast. Just think about how you go through the comment section. Do you click on any of the profiles of the people? If you do, what is it that made you click?

You have a bland profile pic that you could have gotten off of google
I wasn't asking for a channel review but thanks? All of that is subjective. You don't like my channel, and we'll leave it at that. But I'm chuffed that you think it could be from google, because that goes directly against your claim that it's bland. Nobody steals bland people off Google, they steal the attractive ones. So thanks for that.

Onward!
Guys, let's get something straight here. This thread is NOT about me. I wasn't asking if you thought I was doing something right or wrong. I was looking to see what people thought about how commenting in general, when it's done with the interest of conversation on a video, might or might not draw attention to your channel. People have been saying it all the time on here that you should comment to contribute, not comment to promote. That should go without saying at this point. Many of you have taken the chance to jump on me saying I'm doing things for the wrong reason blah blah blah. Did you even read the whole first post? Sorry I didn't take the time for a TL;DR.

I don't comment on videos for the attention. I didn't make any comments with any expectations of anything. I rarely comment on videos at all. I don't care to get any attention from the YouTubers that I'm commenting on, unless the purpose of the video and its comments is some kind of audience participation for the next episode of a particular series. That's all luck in that regard too. I make witty comments because that's who I am. When I'm not making a joke I'm contributing to discussion. Anybody who has seen me post on here should know that by now. Anybody who has met me in real life definitely knows that by now.

What happened is I made a comment based on other comments on the video. A parody of sorts. It blew up unexpectedly. I was surprised and curious to see how this would affect my channel. I asked what you think about when this happens and your channel doesn't move much. I offered that as an example to the discussion, that's all.

I wasn't really even trying to review your channel. As someone that has gained thousands of subs from commenting and knowing others that have also gained thousands just from commenting alone I was trying to tell you why you got this misconception and are giving others the idea that commenting "won't help you". And by bland I'm not referring to the fact that your picture is "boring" but that it looks like any old picture someone likes and would take off of google. Not like an amateur youtuber.

Commenting is hit and miss just try not to say something to generic and do not just say something stupid for attention and hope for the best.
