Commenting Won't Help You, No Matter What

I wouldn't be surprised if all the spam that comes across the YouTube comments section has conditioned folks to not bother looking at ANY channels, even the ones of those who left a comment they actually enjoyed.

I have this feeling that you need an eye-catching and/or pretty icon for people to actually click on it.
But anyway, congrats on the top comment and you may just have scored some points in the eyes of the YT algorithm with all those +1s. Maybe your videos will now rank a little higher?

Well..... who really looks that much at other people's comments let alone click on them to check out their channels? I sure as hell don't. I mean, yeah I agree or disagree or reply, but it doesn't really strike me to think 'hmmm maybe I should click on the guy's name and see if they have some totally awesome channel I never heard of'. When I comment on a video I comment towards whoever or I bring up a point I feel worth mentioning... but I never do it with the intention of some person random clicking on my name to check my channel.

I wouldn't obsess over who's reading your comments, put that energy into your video making. I think being an involved and engaged YouTuber overall is important for SEO, but I wouldn't necessarily equate a single popular comment with an increase in views.
Believe me, I'm not. I just did something and made an observation based on it. I guess you could call it a ... SOCIAL EXPERIMENT? :eeks: :giggle:

Maybe just having a "top comment" doesn't help that much but I am sure comments can help to establish connections to other channels. Maybe the Fine Bros won't notice your comment because they are too busy. But IF they check out your channel as a result of that and post about it. Brillant. But think lower scale. Comment on smaller channels and they might go and check out your channel wondering who this guy is. I mean...I do it. ALso becasue I wonder what other channels and videos these people like. Not overdoing it but sometimes I am curious.

But if you hadn't made that one comment you'd be a few views down and a subscriber down?
Usually, the commenting thing works if you regularly comment on the same sort of videos. Because someone might watch 5 different YouTubers and see that you comment regularly on all them five and be like "I wonder who this person is, they seem to be into the same YouTubers as me and their comments are usually pretty cool".
Thats how I find accounts, I tend to watch a few videos and if I see a username that looks familiar I get curious. Usually it looks familiar because they are commenting everywhere, but then I end up seeing if they create content etc.

But when I +1 comments, I tend to be just searching through the comments rather than curious about if this random commenter has videos or not...
very well said

I check out channels in comments a lot, especially if they have an interesting icon. I love how you can just hover over their pic and youtube shows you a little of their channel in seconds.

Right now I have a comment that is getting tons of traffic. I can't check my real time analytics at the moment, but I don't think much will come of it. But I comment more for the community aspect than for hope of channel gains.

Tbh, from first impression your channel doesn't look that interesting. You have a bland profile pic that you could have gotten off of google and are forced to use your first name. It's not very enticing. Witty commenting on youtube is one of the most effective ways to gain an audience but you have to be able to spark a little interest.
