Commentary in videos?

Hey everyone,

I was just wondering what your opinion is on commentary during game videos and when to do it, i know that when playing with friends and online is always good to have voice over and the voices. But what about solo games like at the moment i'm doing the very first need for speed, would you recommend that it will be more enjoyable to not have commentary or better with? Thanks in advance.

I mainly play Minecraft on my channel and I have commentary over it, although I guess this is more needed since with Minecraft the adventure and gameplay experience is your own so talking adds the story to it where as something like NFS already has somewhat of a story BUT I would say commentary does add something to a gaming video, especially if its funny and entertaining rather then just "ok lets walk over here, or over here....scratch that lets go this way" etc.

So I would have to go with yes, for me as a viewer commentary is better but only when entertaining and ads something to the gameplay experience, otherwise no.

Edit: I suppose there are the video commentaries that are gameplay with rants or talks over the top of them, this is also a very nice format as it gives the viewer something to watch and keep there visual interest while you're telling a story or ranting about something, but once again, its only worth it if its entertaining/interesting/adding something to the experience.

Commentary in game play is much more important, because audience love to hear the Gamers reactions with the situations going inside the game. If you don't do commentary, the video would look boring, but still it depends on how you play the game. In my opinion commentary is preferred and good for your video health.

okay thank you, ill take that into account!

I think a commentary is necessary. I mean if its just gameplay, hundreds of people could be making the exact same video as you since you aren't adding ur extra twist to thigs

No. What does every one always go on about? "Be Unique" If there is no commentary or anything there is nothing that differentiates you from every other freaking channel out there.

I personally would never watch a gaming video with no commentary, would make no sense for me.
When I watch let's plays etc I wanna hear the players thoughts and reactions to what's happening...a ton of interesting or fun things can occur that way.

I agree 100% if I just want to see the game I will watch a trailer.

Commentary is what makes you unique. I listen to 10 different bands because each singer, each instrument, each lyric is different. It's unique. Its like a fingerprint.

Are you on YouTibe to leave a fingerprint? To be remembered? To connect with others? Put your heart and soul into it brother. Yea the first couple videos might seem a bit weird or awkward to you, but it's brand new to someone else.

If you meet me and I have glasses I look normal to you. If we meet again and I don't have glasses I would look weird and vice versa. How we meet someone new is what is normal to us. Same will go for your voice.

My #1 tip is to be over confident, record when your home alone so your not embarrassed, be loosey goosey and just have a lot of fun. Take a couple takes and only keep what you seem to be the best.

Just know that if your having fun, someone somewhere is going to have fun watching you. If you act like your dog died then I'm changing the channel.

YOU GOT IT!
