Colab Channels: Good or Bad?

I am currently part of a colab channel and have just applied to be apart of another and I would like to know your opinions on whether you think colab channels are good or bad for a main channel.
From where I stand currently I can see the pros and cons of colab channels:

Pros:
  • Interact with other creators and befriend them.
  • Help you to find a new audience.
  • If joining a colab channel bigger than your main channel can help you channel to grow.
Cons:
  • If creating your own, it can be hard to get an audience.
  • Some of the other people may not upload making the channel seem less 'professional'.
  • Can be creatively draining creating lots of videos a week.
What do you think on colab channels? Do you think they're a good thing or do they just annoy you? I have mixed feelings on them.

It depends how dedicated everybody is to making it work. Most collab channels don't really seem to take off, but if the people you are working with don't put in any effort, then it doesn't really matter. But I like to believe it helps a lot with growing your own channel and having fun with others.

I would like to believe that it helps with growing your channel but I havent seen any effects of that yet. But it is fun having a channel with others :)

I've been having trouble recently with my friends on this co-owned channel they hardly do anything from time to time and I need to nag them a lot to do content, what makes it annoying is I'm not the owner (I'm the co-owner but that's what the owner should do XD)
But when we do all do content it's glorious and so much less stressy :D

I think they're a good thing to do with good people. If you start a collaboration channel, and everybody turns out to be a bunch of flakes, then that's no fun. You have to find dedicated people who'll stick around when things get rough, and won't just run when views dip or something like that.

I think they only work well when everyone involved has a decent following to begin with. That helps create an audience to start with which creates more motivation for making a video every week.

I think that these collab channels are an alright idea, I havent seen any really big collab channels ever make it. With that said yes it is a fun thing to do with friends and it also does maybe help grow your viewers. But if you feel like you are doing all the work for that channel then I would say jump ship and work on your own channel, cause at the end of the day your channel is the one that matters the most.

But then again I have been looking for a group of people to collab with for awhile now. I guess it's one of those of things that you really have to search for the right group.

Definitely agree with the creative draining

I was thinking of joining/starting one but I decided I'd rather put all my effort into making my channel better first

Reiterating what Gabe said, yeah I agree you would need to have a following before you'd even attempt it. Same goes for people trying to make a second channel when they have 100 subs - such a waste of time.

I agree with this. It all depends on how dedicated the others are to the channel and uploading their share of content.

If everyone is on board at all times, I think it could be pretty fun. Regardless if you already have a decent following or not.
