Can I be a bigger YouTuber without showing my face?

I have been stuck for a good few months on how to get myself out there. And when I read or look at advice for getting a better / bigger fan base, the one thing keeps coming around, people want to see people... >.<

I ain't fugly! hahaa! I just don't have that confidence to put my face on YouTube. In r/l it's bad enough and some of the comments I have heard towards me... well.. It's humiliating and hurts to talk about... I am just stuck on this subject and well I would really like some advice. I guess I could put a mask on... :(

As a special idea for my Subscribers I am reaching a good landmark and thought of giving the viewers a special video where I dress as a masked Superhero. At least the viewers will get to see me.... I have a good build and work out and I would really put some extras in too.

Any thoughts on my subject would be real helpful.

Well you are a comedy channel as well. You can start filming yourself in a mask every time and become known for that.

Hey, I'm so sorry you've had such a hard time with this. People in general can be very inconsiderate sometimes. I totally feel where you're coming from- I'm not very confident in myself either, so deciding to put myself on the internet where anyone can judge me was a really big decision. But to answer your question, NO! You absolutely do NOT need to show your face in order to gain more subscribers. Have you checked out GradeAUnderA or PyroCynical?! They both have tons of subscribers and they don't show their faces. Your privacy is your privacy, and no one is allowed to influence that. I actually think it adds kind of a fun mystery element to the videos when you don't know what the person looks like. I hope this helped a bit!

ummmm.. look where leafy has got without doing facecam lol 3MILLION SUBS

I'm sure as long as people enjoy your content, then whether you show your face or not won't necessarily matter. They'll be entertained regardless.

Opinions are good as I understand a few rare YouTubers made it without needing to show them-self. I am a gamer YouTuber and well I do a good effort on the editing and everything but as you can see on Twitch, YouTube or wherever else that does gaming, allot of people use cams and viewers tend to like that more with the game-play.

Thanks for you replies as well. This has been something that has really been on my mind a bit!

Same with me as well. Generally I don't use a webcam unless I'm streaming on Twitch. But I've gained a steady amount of followers from both whether I use a webcam or not. I think the key is just to be consistent with your schedule.

do what you are comfortable with. I dont show my face, and no-one wants to see it lol. if your worried about comments, i would try to get some stick skin first, because it doesn't matter how perfect you look, people will still say nasty things about your looks. its just the internet's way. It's best to get in a position now where it doesn't affect you :)

Maymo is a dog channel and I have never seen the person's face. They have over 100k subscribers and the videos are all about their dogs and now for some reason baby goats.
