I'm a photographer, so I use the DSLR I already have for that. Personally I'm a Nikon girl and wouldn't recommend a Cannon but you can do what you want :P
I think if you're going to be getting a DSLR you really should do a lot of research on them and the different brand/model options you have, it's not going to be cheap so you should make sure you get what you want.
If you're not going to be manually focusing, I think there are some pretty decent point and shoots, or you might just wanna go with a camcorder.

You mention an important point here. Automatic focusing is not something DSLRs are good at when it comes to video.

We favor a high end camcorder over the DSLR because of price, autofocus, smaller form factor, ability to record continuously for long periods of time without overheating, and with our particular camcorders, better image stabilization than you can get in a DSLR/Glidecam combo.

I do daily vlogs so I need a point and shoot that can fit in my pocket or purse. I have a Sony point and shoot and it films in SD, & HD up to 1080 so it works for the occasional beauty video I do also (at least for now).

I highly recommend the Sony NEX5R. It's the size of a point and shoot and the images you can create are equal if not greater than the DSLRs.

I have a review of it on my channel if anyone is interested :)
