Body image and YouTube

look at a comparison, between Youtube celebrities, and TV and film celebrities.
Youtube has many more larger celebs, because it's the personality and talent that drives people.
It's not the perfect world we want yet, but its definitely a step up from what we see on TV, where the news will hound anyone that gains a few pounds.
For myself, weight hasn't really been an issue as I've just ate what I want (though I don't have a huge appetite) and not changed weight for years.
BUT I have what you may call "ugly face syndrome" that no amount of exercise can cure lol

That is true. It's said that people are choosing YouTube over TV because they're looking to make a connection with someone. Which I think is great and why I love this website!

absolutely! :) many times you can ask questions, and get responses from your favourite youtubers. You'd be hard pressed to get that with those outside of youtube.

I mean I have a high metabolism, so I stay thin even if I eat a load of crap, and it hasn't really helped me at all. But sometimes people subscribe to a channel because of their appearance (Because they find them attractive or whatever) But honestly, it shouldn't matter because if people only subbed for your looks, you wouldn't have any true fans, so don't worry about it :) Be confident in yourself :) It should be your personality and content that people sub you for, not your looks :)

*shakes fist* blasted self-hatred. I could pick my face apart. It's only on a rare day that I feel happy with my face :P But I'm trying really hard to just love myself. Ignore what I think are problems and count what I think are successes or good qualities. I've been doing that since before I started this post, but I had a bit of a slip ... thus this thread was created.[DOUBLEPOST=1436465802,1436465689][/DOUBLEPOST]
You have Louise (Sprinkle of Glitter) who is a succesful Beauty and Lifestyle YouTuber.
I often think of her. She's not very large, really, but she is one of the thicker-than-your-average-famebot youtubers, and she's just amazing.

I'd say I'm on the average side, but I don't know. Many people have called me fat in my life, I do know I am a chubby girl, and that does get to me sometimes as I would think that more people would like me if I was more like everyone else, and I've had these thoughts all my life. So I just don't know, I am in a conflicting mindset at the moment :/

I know what you mean, I used to be really down about my looks, I have a big, boney nose, and as a girl, its the worst haha. Used to get loooooads of nasty comments all through school, and then I went to college to stufy aniamtion.

Not a single person in that class laughed, poked fun, or mentioned my face. In fact, they went the extra mile and all came up to me and introduced themselves individually.

I cried when I got home that night.

And after that, I never looked back. I know Im not a 'looker' to some people, but genuine people are out there, its not us that are ugly, or too big too small etc. its those people that have bad attitudes that are the problem :)

Hey bottom line is, who the hell doesn't have doubts and dislikes with their body image. The greatest thing you can do for your self image is to just be comfortable in your own skin and realize that the best look on anyone is happiness and confidence. And no I'm not skinny, I had a baby so now i'm plump in certain places and stretch marks have wrecked any hope of ever having a bikini bod even when I lose the weight, but I have found out that when I just don't care and rock what I want I find that I become more attractive not just to other but more importantly to myself.

*super hug* You're gorgeous, shush ^u^ And you're really quite small O_O I should hunt whoever called you fat and give the ice cream... And not a good flavor, either. Something like... something that tastes like mud! Or chicken pot pie. Which don't get me wrong, chicken pot pie is delicious! But could you imagine ice cream- something that's supposed to be sweet and desserty -tasting like chicken and gravy and peas and stuff???[DOUBLEPOST=1436481765,1436481388][/DOUBLEPOST]

Wait >.> Why did you cry? What did I miss O_O Was it happy cry? Or like... O_O idk... Mnyeh. I bet you're gorgeous and people just pick on you because they want you to feel bad so they can step above you. One of my favorite quotes... I can't find the verbatim right now, but I'll give you a paraphrase O_O It is something to the effect of:
People don't put you down because they think you have no power. They see that power and they're afraid of it, and they put you down so that you yourself cannot recognize your own power.

(The quote is way better)[DOUBLEPOST=1436481922][/DOUBLEPOST]
