Big YouTubers Not Really Friendly?

I see a lot of them that reply to some which I think is reasonable. Some people don't reply to any which I don't think is right.

I think I will do a fan appreciation day once a month, I will take some comments I really like and feature them in a video as well as thank everyone... sounds like a plan!

A good portion of people who reach a certain level of popularity require a buffer between themselves and the public. The amount of vitriol that these people are exposed to on a daily basis is not small and the positive comments just don't make the negative ones go away. Numerous large YouTubers see therapists to deal with these issues. So, before you claim that it is no big deal, you need to really understand the nuances of having an audience in the hundreds of thousands or millions of people size range.

Plenty of people on this forum freak out when they get a dislike or a negative constructive or even destructive comment. Now imagine getting thousands of all of those every day. When you shift your perspective, it is easy to see why avoiding the YouTube comments section is often seen as the right move.

Ive seen therapists my whole life because people stare at me and poke fun of the way I walk. TBH I walk like a penguin, but eh... Im very much so used to negativity, but I can see how some big YT's just dont wanna immerse themselves in that. Its still sad though.

I only have just under 3,300 subscribers and sometimes there's more comments than I can handle.
I can't realistically spend time replying to every single comment when there are hundreds of them. BIG YouTubers get THOUSANDS of comments each day.

When a YouTuber speaks to their subscribers in a video, that should be enough. Subscribers shouldn't expect them to reply to every comment. Sure, they should reply to SOME of the comments - perhaps the ones that other subs have thumbed up for being good comments, or the first few on a video. But ALL of them? We're YouTubers, but we have lives and I see nothing wrong with 90% of comments being unreplied to by the YouTuber when there are thousands of them.

And yes, YouTubers should appreciate their subscribers.
However, aren't YouTubers doing enough by uploading videos that their subscribers enjoy? I mean, when you think about it the YouTuber is spending hours making and editing each video. If anything I think subscribers should be more appreciative of what they're getting. It's a give-take relationship, subscribers only have to view a video (and maybe share it or thumbs it up) to "contribute", whereas the creator has to spend hours on each video.

Plus, it's 1 (or a small group of ppl) person making each video. The reason the video gets popular is because of THOUSANDS of viewers. That means the importance of each individual viewer/subscriber, and each commenter, is a tiny tiny tiny tiny fraction of how much effort the YouTuber puts into each video.

Do I reply to a lot of comments on my channel? Yes I do, I like it and it also brings people back. I can see they like being replied to as well... But that doesn't mean I will spend hours, or days, replying to comments when my channel gets even larger. I'll spend the same amount of time as I do now replying to them, 10-20 minutes at most per day.

Not to mention big channels also have to work on videos like 24/7, well not 24/7, but long hours each day in order to make videos every day with little free time. I only have 50k subscribers and I don't even have any free time or anything other than to make youtube videos all day. I don't even have time to watch other youtube videos. I reply to my viewers whenever they ask questions but other than that I don't have time to think of how to reply to every comment. Most channels don't want to just reply to everyone with a generic thank you comment. And if you reply to one person, you have to reply to everyone. It doesn't mean I'm not friendly or don't care. I spend 50+ hours a week making videos for my subscribers.

Big channels don't have to make videos. Most have enough money to retire and relax for the rest of their lives but they keep doing it because they care about their subscribers. If I didn't care about my subscribers, I would have quit youtube long ago.

Bah, you can just make up for the lost time commenting that now can't be used to make videos by just not sleeping as much. See? Easy. Problem solved. :p

There's also, on a more serious note, the idea of entitlement. As though the viewers were somehow responsible in an active way for the success. Frankly, that's not true in the slightest. The argument cannot be made that the viewers made the channel popular. The channel operator through good content, marketing and so on is what made the channel popular and attracted the viewers.

Just like on YouTube with smaller channels, you can go to a comedy show and find a small unknown comic to chat with on all sorts of topics. Now go try that with Jerry Seinfeld. Best of luck.

I find the attitude silly that YouTubers owe it to their fans to be active in the comments.

Yeah your channel would be tough. You're required to check out all these games, and I'm sure you don't even enjoy some of the games. Even if they make the Top List for a certain month that doesn't mean they're anywhere close to the best Android games you've ever played. That's got to be tough.

You have to think about it in there perspective. Of course they reply to every comment or message that they get. You say that they should at least respond to something genuine. But with YouTube's comment section the way it is now, it's pretty much just a bunch of hate that they would have to go through in order to find those comments. Why would they put themselves through that?

I do wish that more of them would be more active but it is totally reasonable why they don't respond too much.
