Best Video Editing Software

Which one of these is the best bang for your buck? Or what is the best free software?

I've found Sony Movie Studio to be a really good option for value and a non-extravagant price. It's extremely similar to Vegas, but is aimed at the basic consumer market. Actually it's so similar that I often just look up Vegas tutorials to figure out how to do things, the interface and options are identical in almost all respects. I believe the latest, version 12, is about $100.

Thank you so much! I downloaded Lightworks last night. I am going to try this until I can save up some money! I will have to check that out!

I've tried a number of editors, but I reluctantly keep going back to Premiere Pro. It seems to do what I want to do with the minimal amount of frustration (though its transitions are all outdated and it basically has zero cool effects for text). I used Vegas for a number of videos, but it's a real pain for moving/panning still images. And every time I dropped a still image on the timeline, it would always resize it to fit the screen rather than keep it at the original size. I could resize the image, but Vegas had no easy way of showing how large my image actually was (150%, 125%, etc). What a PITA.
Anyway, the reason I put up with Vegas for so long was because the timeline interface was great. It's nice and fast, and you can overlap clips on top of each other without destroying either clip. It would just automatically do a cross-fade between the two. And you could always move the clip somewhere else if you didn't want it there. Premiere's timeline seems a bit outdated and sluggish in comparison.

If Vegas gave their still image interface an overhaul, then I would definitely consider going back.

I tried PowerDirector again recently. I really wanted to like this one, but it had awkward support for adjusting audio volume (like easily lowering parts of music to compensate for voiceover). Even the latest version (11) doesn't show your audio in decibels so it just makes it really awkward.

I too have PowerDirector but for my money, nothing beats Final Cut. I don't use it at home but when I was at college, the editing software was on Macs and it was really nice to put together whatever I needed.

Adobe Premiere, Final Cut, PowerDirector are all good. Pinnacle Studio is okay but nothing special. I've yet to truly find a video editor that I'm completely thrilled with to say they are better than the other.

Just out of curiosity, what video editing software do people think is the best and why??

The Adobe Creative Suite CS6

They all link through "dynamic link" and it saves TONS of time in post.
Premier CS6 pulled me away from Final Cut Pro. It's a great program and worth the money!

Hmm that'll be something I'll have to check out. If you think it's better than Final Cut, I'll give it a shot wherever I can find it. My main issue is finding decent lower third graphics.[DOUBLEPOST=1351303971,1351303943][/DOUBLEPOST]Hmm that'll be something I'll have to check out. I personally love Final Cut 7, but that's because I have used Final Cut for 10+ years.
But Premiere CS6 is really good as well.

Just preference.
