Awkward to Vlog?

I've been making gaming videos on YouTube for about 3 years. However, I am tired of it. Thousands of people seem to do it now. I do have personality and uniqueness in my videos, but I just don't like it as much.

I wanted to start vlogging because I feel like I can connect more personally with my audience. However, I just feel like it would be awkward if some of my friends found my channel. I like the anonymity I have when I made gaming videos.

Vloggers, how do you get over the possibility that your friends find your channel, and what do you do to end the awkwardness if they do find it?

If you think it's awkward if people you know find you, how or why do you expect to handle 1000s of strangers finding you?
Blunt, but true.

This could apply to anything. If you feel awkward talking to girls you don't even feel attracted to, how will you ever ask out a girl you're crushing on? If you feel awkward to hand out a business card, how will you ever talk to clients on the phone? See the pattern? In all these situations, the answer is, awkward or not, it's best to just face our fears. Awkward things happen, they are uncomfortable, but they are never detrimental, or life ruining, you can survive it, the question is, is it worth it to you or not.

Well... My advice is to take control of the fear and just talk to your friends about what you're planning. Are you saying that you've been making gaming videos for three years but have been avoiding discussing your hobby with your friends? Perhaps you should think critically about what exactly you're afraid of. I have to say, most of the time we fear telling someone something "embarrassing" we're imagining the consequences to be much worse than they are. Even if someone thinks that vlogging is immature or something, it still won't really matter.
Better to do the thing than to live with the fear of it.

I couldnt agree with Symph more, you basically have to get over that could happen, if you dont it will always hold you back just like any other fear.

I feel similar, Not so much now i've finished high school though. Around my second year of high school people found the channel i had at the time, and picked on me for it until we finished (four years) It was probably my fault, I let them get to me, you've just got to overcome it.

Well if you feel smothered by the thousands other vloggers around the same level as you, your friends knowing about your videos would give them the boost they need...

The only thing awkward for me is having nothing to say which is a definite possibility if you are going for a vlog everyday. There's also always the possibility that your friends and family may find your videos. If your worried about friends and family watching you on a video then you probably shouldn't be making the video in the first place. I learned that a couple of years ago. You just can't be worried about that stuff if you really want to make videos that show you.

I am in the same position! I have made gaming videos on one channel for many years, and got around 400 subscribers in that time
But now I got so bored of it, I wanted to make vlogs with my face and actually connect with other people about something other than Minecraft haha
I was so scared of my friends finding my channel (I am very shy in real life) that I abandoned my main channel and started a new one. It took me a couple of months to finally upload my first video, but now I am making vlogs without even thinking about my friends.
I keep thinking that if they somehow find them eventually and make fun of me or anything, maybe I shouldn't be friends with them anyway.
Took me a while, but you will hopefully overcome it and do what you like regardless of what your friends may think :)

I had that problem too and am still quite awkward about it! After I posted some of my first videos, my friend told me he found one of my vlogs. I TOTALLY FREAKED OUT!! But then I thought how once you post something online, it's out of your hands and you can't keep it from anybody. Even my mom watches themnat times which is the weirdest feeling. Just keep at xD
