Attention Span

Yup, definitely very subjective. Personally, if a video doesn't really grab me within the first 10-20 seconds, I'll either close out, or skip ahead a bit to see if it picks up, and if it doesn't, then I close out. Again, that's just me though.
we are same!!

Look at your audience retention span and divide it by 80-90%. That's about how much free time you will have before the viewer makes a decision. If you're building up to something, tease it.

I've heard you have 5 seconds to catch someone's attention (plus or minus depending on appearance, accent, etc...) I'd imagine subscribers would be willing to stick around a video a lot longer than someone who doesn't have a clue who you are.

This is what My audience retention looks like at the beginning. But then it goes up and down several times. The video has a lifetime of 2,281 views if that makes any difference. The beginning that builds up to the good part is about 20 seconds

Mine, for a video of 3:08 length and around 2400 views:

So what do you think? Our retention graph would differ is what I think for most of us... So we can't really pinpoint it can we?

I see what you are saying to an extent, but isn't the audience retention supposed to tell us how people are watching it?
Yep for each and individual videos. From mine it looks like the people that stayed, stayed and watch till the end. For you, it looks like there are parts that people rewind and such (the peaks) and you should see that the percentage stayed till the end are only 10-15% left?

That's how you should see it. It's a matter of, does your video catches people's attention or not, rather than what's the average attention span people have.[DOUBLEPOST=1444615781,1444615509][/DOUBLEPOST]Also, I do think your video does catches people's attention (from the graph) but just not till the end. Especially around the 2:35 mark. If that helps?

I'd say if you're a new subscriber or have never been to that person's channel, it's around at least 10 seconds. If you're subscribed to that person, I'd imagine at least a minute, depending on the topic. Of course, you have those people who will go the full length of the video. It's moreso if they find an interest in the video.

It's subjective. Personally I love youtube shows with catchy 20 second theme songs but some people prefer skipping intros longer than 5 seconds

Well my Absolute Audience Retention for that video is below average which is confusing to me. Does that matter if the relative retention looks fine?
