Attention Span

I usually have an attention span of 7 minutes on each video. 12 minutes on my longest video (18ish minutes)

I would assume the average is about 2 to 5

I mean the beginning of the video. Like if you have a 3 min video how long do people watch for before they decide they will watch the rest of the video? is it the first 20 seconds?

I believe between 5 and 10 minutes, just don't exceed the approximate 10 minutes mark

i think that this is a very subjective question as there are too many factors that come into play. It depends on your channel, and what kind of videos you make, what kind of personalities do your viewers have, whether they're interested in your content.. Hard to predict an answer really.

Okay, I have a video where it takes about 30 seconds into the video before the main part happens. But the intro is important. The analytics show a bit of a drop off but not major.

Yup, definitely very subjective. Personally, if a video doesn't really grab me within the first 10-20 seconds, I'll either close out, or skip ahead a bit to see if it picks up, and if it doesn't, then I close out. Again, that's just me though.

Some years ago it was 10-15 seconds... recently I heard someone say it's 7 seconds. Is there a second subtracted each year?

My videos are usually not as interesting at the beginning because i tend to build up interest slowly towards the end.
I also don't include an intro card because I don't have a good one. I'd rather wait till I have a good one before I use it than use crappy intro cards that turns people away.
I do have an end card though. A good tip would be to start the video with a hook before using your intro card.
