Any Idea why gaming channels are so popular?

Besides the fact that gaming is popular that is? Haha... Even though I don't game, I do find the channels amusing at times... but I just can't fathom why there are channels like the mine craft channels and stuff like that...

Gamers that mix it up I can understand... but to be constantly uploading videos of just one game?

Thoughts?
 
Well constantly uploading videos of one game, the viewing audience would be other avid players of that game. If a game is puller, and a lot of people enjoy good gameplay (usually when they play) they usually like to see other people also have god gameplay. Especially on a game that they have put a lot of time in to, it's cool to see other people play well. Plus a lot of gamer put out guides on how to complete things in the game
 
This is my theory - 2012 YouTube algorithm change promoted channels which can generate long watch times. Game channels (because of their content) and because of their popularity among kids are extremely efficient in generating long watch time. So the algorithm expended them (together with other types of kids channels) on the expense of the rest. So to sum it up - it is an algorithmic artifact. :)

In general the whole "Disneyfication" of YouTube could be traced back to this algorithmic change. I think YouTube engineers should have consulted neuro-biologists and psychiatrists before starting such significant modifications of the algorithm. And may be that's why they are working now on creating "Kids YouTube".
 
I've often thought of this, too and questioned why I myself find them so entertaining. The conclusion that I have come to is thinking that once you "know" individual YouTubers personalities, you become interested in watching them play certain games and being interested in how they react. I suppose it's no stranger than watching stand-up comedians stand on a stage and tell jokes for however long, or watching other people sing or dance or act. You get to know people through enjoying their videos and as a result you want to watch more and continue to enjoy them. I will admit myself that it does seem like a bit of a peculiar habit to have developed, but certain games are emotional journeys or just plain fun and it can be very powerful and entertaining to see people go along those journeys - especially if you feel like you "know" them.

Maybe I need to write a paper on this...
 
Right and understandable if you're a character as well... I'm sure there are endless inside jokes between gamers that non-gamers would know nothing about and make those videos more entertaining for them... and I had no idea they were working on a "Kids YouTube" haha... wow!
 
Sometimes when I m stuck somewhere in the Games, I usually search for gameplay videos to learn the technique to play the game like an EXPERT :D
So I think gaming channels are famous bcz most of the gamers wanna learn newer ways of dealing with the games :D
 
Do Gamers like other channels other than gamers? I feel like they box everyone out, haha[DOUBLEPOST=1423802097,1423802075][/DOUBLEPOST]cause there is some funny stuff out there, I mean, I think my channel is pretty funny, haha
 
I think it's just easier than putting on makeup and doing a vlog.
That and the obvious popularity of gaming.
Also, if you like to do something, sharing it makes it even more fun.
 
That's the thing that is big with girls too, makeup type vlogs... those younger girls that do those have a huge following quickly... You can't tell me straight men are following those girls too... men aren't the only ones on the internet, haha
