ANIMATED GIFS IN BANNERS (NO LONGER ALLOWED)

First of all, sorry if this is in the wrong section! Couldn't think of another place to put this thread, found this the most suitable.​

I've been trying to animate my Channel Art for awhile, but it never worked. After some research, I've come to the conclusion that it was impossible - that YouTube didn't support animated Channel Art.

This morning, I was watching one of my favorite YouTubers (CaptainSparklez/Jordan), and in the comments were hundreds of people spamming how he got his channel art animated (yesterday, it was his regular non-animated one).

I checked it, and I was in disbelief. His channel art was animated! Search it if you don't believe me.

So, I'm here to ask, does anyone know how this is possible? And even better, how to do it?

I think by hiding the file extension and naming the file banner.png.gif, but the .gif part is hidden.
Not sure if it works like that though.
