Adding a PayPal 'Donate' button to your channel links?

I've Got It
I saw a few people who added a PayPal Donate link to their channel, you know the banner button links? My question is, is this against terms of use or can you actually do it even though you are not a non-profit? I can easily go to my PayPal account, generate a https:// donate page URL and slap it on there, but is it kosher?

Thanks!

I seen it on somebody's channel too. In my opinion, it cheapens the experience and makes it look like we are looking for hand-outs.

Well, technically it's kosher. But I tried it for a day once and had an eruption of "YOU AREN'T POOR YOU'RE A PARTNER STOP IT MAN," so I took it down. I'm considering ignoring that as I may attempt to do an Indiegogo for some funding, but even that scares me a lot. People are not forgiving to people who make money and ask for money - even though for all intents and purposes, it would be reinvested to make better content, which is why they pay attention in the first place. We aren't TV, and a lot of people think all partners make that kind of money. Which is obviously silly.

They've yet to come up with something for YouTubers like a "fan club" type thing, which a lot of bands still do to this day. There is like a fee every month and it gets you access to things other people do not have. Probably because people kind of think they should have that stuff for free, though. :p

Maybe test the waters by asking people who follow you, their perspective is invaluable.

just do it yolo xD just kidding hate that word ....its legal but you have to give something in return

I think it's alright because you are helping people with your video tutorials. Some musicians share their sheet music and there's a donate button on their website.

Point taken  I also agree, I was just curious I started seeing these pop around a lot. Didn't know whether it violates TOS since these guys are not non-profits.
You may consider what I'm getting ready to do...create a page on a crowdfunding site, and make a video specifically about your donation campaign. Then you can always add a donation annotation that YT offers in the annotations manager. Just make sure it's for a good cause or that you can at least make it worth clicking on.

I've seen a few people do it, including several who seem to be living on their YouTube money, and who therefore shouldn't need to beg for cash. I suppose that if you're going to do it, though, you should be really sure you need it, and then talk to your viewers to see if they're okay with it.

Of course, I've also seen YouTubers selling t-shirts and merch instead. I think people are more likely to accept that, since they're actually going to get something for their money. I'm not sure how you go about doing that, though.
