It's not an easy system, but it does attract people who want to watch quality content and want to breed fans instead of numbers. I would take 100 loyal viewers over 1000 subs who don't even watch my stuff.There's a system in Fullscreen on what they call "promoting".
This is how it works:
There's a timeline of videos for you to watch.
Click on any video and you'll watch it.
If you decide to "promote" it, you will then like the video and subscribe to their channel automatically.
The more your promote, the higher your points rack up. The higher your points, the more likely it is for people to see YOUR video on that timeline.
However, this system is abused, as people often unsubscribe immediately once they grab the points (thus promotion for themselves/selfish promotion).
Your model or concept of "sub4sub" could actually work, if people actually did that.
