A matter of exclusivity...

I must be missing something. How can he post videos on Twitter without his YouTube subscribers seeing it in their YouTube Feed? Is he talking about doing a Vine or IG mini-movie?
Making the video unlisted. Only people with the link can watch the videos that way.

no man he's saying he's gonna tell his subs on youtube that he has posted the link to his unlisted videos a day before they go public on twitter, therefore follow him on twitter, you can see his videos before the rest of his subs do.

OP (Original Poster) Thanks for the discussion!

OK. Thanks. I have never tried unlisted. I have tried to share private links or something before and they couldn't see the video. Thanks for letting me know that if I make it 'unlisted', that it can be shared with a link.

Now that I understand, here is some food for thought. I have noticed on some devices that the YouTube video will play while still on the Twitter page. I don't know if that is still the case now though. Sometimes on external sites, the ads don't appear. That means that you will be sacrificing revenue in the hopes of gaining potential Twitter followers.

I probably have 100+ Twitter followers and 900+ Facebook friends. I have my YouTube settings to auto-post to those social sites when I upload a video. My philosophy is that if people want to keep track of my uploads via those ecosystems, I will make it available to them. However, my focus is YouTube. Answering comments takes a priority on YouTube. My interaction on outside sites is minimal. It may be different in my situation because people will tend to ask a lot of questions and they don't even watch the videos. At least if they ask a question on a relevant video, when I answer the question, it is there for the record and everybody can see it.

Well yeah, the ads won't show up, but that's not the point. The point is you're "rewarding" those who took the time to follow or like the page, with being able to watch the video before others do. It's kinda like a way to say thanks. Gives more of a reason why people should like your pages. If all you care about is money, then you're pretty much doing youtube for all the wrong reasons..

It is up to the own individual creator to decide if they are in it for the money or not. I wouldn't cast judgement on somebody if that's their plans. Personally, over half of my 800 videos are NOT monetized.

Thanks.

You actually generate real revenue mark. For alot of us small fry, exposure trumps revenue in importance by a light year. I don't think you understand how powerful cornering a small niche actually is on youtube. AikoMiyoko is another example of this. She hardly has to promote, and people find her videos and she grows fast. It's all because people looking for her specific genre of expertise aren't gonna find many others who do it as well.

You might still wanna give twitter and other mediums more of a shot, might see yourself grow even more, or may be fine with where you're at. But channels that dont specialize in one niche, usually HAVE to use social media to get their channels out there. But I do get what you're saying, I still think in the case of the OP it's a potentially good idea that's worth a shot :)

Yes, I understand how powerful cornering a small niche actually is. It was a calculated measure and I executed my plan before others in the hobby realized what was happening.

I do understand the difficulty that smaller channels have. I choose to be active on these forums to help when I can. Does that mean that I'm giving shout-outs on my channel? No. That's because my viewers tune in for content, not for shout-outs. Do I give shout-outs? YES! I have plenty of opportunities for shout-outs but they are for participants on my channel. They are not random shout-outs. My PTDD series gives shout-outs to ten people on each one and I'm up to #13 now. With just that series alone, I have over a million views where my viewers received shout-outs. People would die for that exposure.

As for utilizing Twitter, Facebook, and even Instagram. Yes, I have been dabbling there as well. I like Twitter and IG but I am becoming less interested in Facebook. I cut back on doing daily videos so that I could spend more time on 'social' stuff =)[DOUBLEPOST=1372045218,1372042801][/DOUBLEPOST]

I do agree that it is an interesting plan. My earlier comments were just one perspective (concerning ads). As a matter of fact, I have an upcoming video and it would be good to use a social site for viewers to post suggestions =)

I'm sorry Mark, I think I let some childishness come through in my response to you. When you said "You're losing revenue by off youtube links" I just thought "you know, MOST of us aren't generating enough revenue for that to matter man..." It was stupid of me my apologies. You were only trying to help and I let my own feeling of inadequacy cause me to respond childishly. It happens sometimes when I'm feeling particularly, frustrated with my channel I guess. I'm sorry I responded coldly sir.

I'm at work and I didn't make the time to see what kind of traffic the OP has on his YT account. I could have made a different response had I known that. No need to apologize =)
