5000 Views Overnight - Promoting Videos Review ;)

Let me clear this up for anyone confused. Youtube has a promote feature, which isn't really meant for what it was used for here. In this case it was used to promote a specific video (not that that is a bad thing), however this feature is meant for you to upload a 30 second to 1 minute video (im not saying that, that's straight out of youtube/googles mouth) that works as an ad for your video. You choose an amount that you want to pay, per day, If I'm not mistaken. You'll also need an adwords account to be able to do this. (At least I'm assuming he meant the youtube promote)

5k views for 3$?? that seems like alot..

What keywords did you target to get to a $0.80 CPM

I'm confused as well. As I understood Adwords promotion, you can't get below $0.01 per view. Now granted he's talking £ but the only way I can see this happening is by overserve which doesn't happen often.

It was YouTubes feature yes, I paid £3 to promote my video, and I ended up with 5000 views. I don't get paid as im not a partner and this wasn't monitized, was just doing a trail run. And as was mentioned the ideal use of this feature is to make a video that advertises your channel or content which will draw people to your channel.

Hope that clears things up :)

Can you elaborate on the analytics side a bit? Adwords doesn't allow for a bid per view lower than $0.01. At current exchange rates, 3£ in USD translates into about $5, and at $0.01 per view should net you 500 views. I can't come up with a proper explanation for how that's possible outside of Google overserve which is when Google serves your ad too many times, but credits you the difference as it's an error on their part.

It only really works if you use a trailer/ad style video.

You have to look at it in the viewers point of view. Is it going to catch their attention within the first few seconds, if not.. They will skip it. Think of when you skip ads vs watching them
