What is a good audience retention %?

My retention is around 47% for a learn to program educational channel with videos an average of 5 minutes.

I think it would be helpful to hear the type of channel, average video length, etc, because the retention is going to be different for different audiences. Any other educational channels out there willing to share their numbers?

I have been trying to get above 50% consistently, but mine is only around 43%. This is really sad, haha, since my videos are only 2 to 4 minute song covers (so certainly not "too long") Alas...

Hey everyone, I was just curious what a good audience retention % is?

It depends on what audience you are targeting. I think for gaming at the very least which is where I been around alot. 8 - 12% retention is where most healthy gaming channels seem to be.

I speak considering to my definitions that retention is your average video view to total subscriber ratio.

I think the theory he's going for is that subscribers *tend* to watch more of the videos of people they have subscribed to than non-subscribers do.

But yeah, I agree -- having more subs doesn't raise retention rate on its own. And you're more likely to get more subs if your videos are good enough to appeal to non-subscribers

hit the nail on the head!
