Oh god Google... what have you done?

I don't think it does that, according to a video I watched by Total Biscuit it only took a short trailer in a half hour video to disable monetisation (at least that's what I remember).
That's for the current Content ID system that was only meant for actualy copyright holders. This is now giving power to normal content creators. Apparently channels with a network can get this feature.[DOUBLEPOST=1389180957,1389180919][/DOUBLEPOST]
I think you'll find it's not enabled for 99.5% of channels.
That .5% is still enough to cause some trouble. And how long before that 99.5% reduces.

I'm not quite sure what they mean by "this content"?
Yeah, that's another thing. It either means the entire video, which in that case would be good because it would prevent re-uploaders or it means certain elements. There's the "match policy" which I unfortunately can't see how far that goes since I don't have this feature at all. Minx is worried by it enough to make it known to other content creators though. Fingers crossed I'm (and others) worrying for nothing and it actually checks entire videos. lol If anyone has this feature though it would be good to get some more insight. At this stage it just looks like another shitstorm is coming out of YouTube's a**e again.

I have the feature but all it says is this:

It seems to not be working as it should yet.
I assume they will have various content options to select once it starts working properly.

EDIT: This is the link it takes you to if you click 'Learn More' (https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/107383?hl=en&rd=1)

Well I hope they take their time getting this working, I really feel for channels just starting out that don't know about content ID and all of that, they may not even be able to get started. Channels like mine with no network (as of now) are in danger too :(.

Hmmm "assests" suggests that you can apply it to certain elements or parts of the video? I'm guessing this is to prevent people from putting ID claims on stuff that's already out there, example cut scenes, you can't put content ID claims on that, unless the developers allowed monetisation to you in the first place. I really wish YT informed people more about their updates. What does it say under "learn more"? xD Anything more useful?

It's really not that bad..

MCNs have already enabled this feature on their partners for years.

  • It's audio matching only
  • Your MCN likely has it enabled on all your videos already on the monetization policy
  • This just allows you to change the policy to block or track

It's actually likely to be better for most channels.

:cat2: I edited my post earlier to include that link.

If Google thinks that's content ID system actually works for companies, like actually believes and turns a blind eye to the problems it has, than it's sorta a nice thing to hand to the YouTubers as well.
