Need My Channel Reviewed Please

Okay, I watched a few of your videos and you have a great presence in front of the camera. Your editing and flow is superb, and I really like your intro. Then it kind of hit me that it sort of sounds like you're doing a Phill DeFranco impersonation at times in the way you speak. That's sort of where my criticism ends. You have the type of charisma that deserves to have a huge amount of subs, and you seem dedicated so it's sad that you feel you don't have that many people watching. I subscribed because I like how you do commentary on recent, relevant events and as I've said you have an interesting personality and eloquently get your opinion of course.

* One more thing, I wish your videos could be a bit longer because with a lot of them as I got into them they seemed to be over.

I'm a big PhillyD fan and I've watched just about everything he's got available on YouTube. I must say that I'll never be as good as him and if I do seem to be impersonating him, it's not intentional.

I do realize that I need to make the videos longer. I think I'm going to have to start writing notes....not exactly a script but I do find myself watching my videos after I've edited and uploaded them and remembering something I wanted to say in the video. Kind of irritating.

I'm glad you decided to subscribe to me but I never got an email saying you did. I checked my stats and sure enough I'm up to 111 subs. Usually I go to the page of the person that subbed to me and thank them on their message wall if they have it available. What do you think of YouTubers that ask for likes, comments, favorites and subs? I personally try not to ask in every video. I don't want to sound desperate but at the same time, it would be nice to have subs that watch and comment in hope of conversatoin and discussion.

I do it, mostly because all the YouTubers I watch do it, so I figured people must not mind too much. If sxephil, jennamarbles, raywilliamjohnson and you know.... ALL the big youtubers can do a blip at the end asking for subs comments and likes, why not? It just seemed to me to be the standard YouTube format.

Hopefully someone still reads this thread.

If anyone that's watched my videos has any suggestions of what to talk about or what they'd like me to talk about in my videos, I'd be glad to see them. I'll also do some Q&A videos.

Here's my newest video to look over.

Alright, symphonious comes in with his over critical opinions and is going to make himself look like an a**, as usual. But here's the thing man, I've watched like 10 of your videos now, it's not hard they're all like a minute long. It's not that they're BAD per se, it's that there's nothing to them. You get on cam, you give some small little opinion of yours, it's never anything truly provocative or groundbreaking, and alot of times, the actual meat of the video, the actual opinion that might matter to me or other viewers, is like 15 seconds of the video, and the rest is you telling me how the weather is and how you just got back from your jog and this and that, I don't know you man, why do I care what the weather is like where you are? Why do I care what you've been doing today? give me an opinion.

I get the feeling you hardly plan these videos, I think you just think of something, you have one point you'd like to make, turn the camera on and bam, you give your one point and we're out. That's just not gonna hook alot of people man, I mean I'm not sitting here going "oh man is he awkward" or "oh man he's embarrassing himself" it's nothing like that, you've got a fine presence in front of the camera, there's just hardly any substance to speak of. I would like to see you NOT vlog everyday, and instead pick topics you have ALOT to say about and PREPARE for them, if you have to do some research to get more perspective on the matter? Do it.

But I want to see a video where you really make some valid points, don't tell me so much about the mundane goings on around your house, it's night time here, it's about 60 something degrees outside, I just got done eating some eggs and bacon and now I'm drinking coffee. Did you care about any of that? I don't know why you would, you don't know me, humans eat, day turns into night, wherever you are there is weather outside, tell me something I would care about, and have enough to say that it's worth my time.

For me these vlogs are many, you have tons of them, but I have yet to see one that made much of an impact on me at all. Not because you can't speak well, but because you're not saying anything relevant or interesting. The closest thing I saw was when you said you thought youtubers were getting their accounts deleted for botting unnecessarily, but it was like all you did was say enough to cause an interest to spark in me, then you were done and I got no substance.

I wanted to know what youtubers are you talking about? Who lost their accounts? What are these people doing about it? What has youtube said about it? And how are people reacting? You could find comments other people have made, get their perspectives, and give your take on other people's perspectives on the issue. You can't just go in and go "some people are getting accused of botting but youtube isn't investigating and deleting their accounts, it's not right, the end" All that does is make me want to find another youtuber who knows what you're talking about and will actually give me some information. I shouldn't feel the need to go looking for that information though, because you just covered the topic, your video should have told me what I wanted to know.

I'm only being so harsh because you've been doing this so long and you seem to be baffled as to why you're not getting more views/subscribers, well if you ask me it's because of everything I just said. Work on giving us some real substance. Sorry to be a douche if you perceive me that way, this is not meant to tear you down, make you feel like crap, or discourage you. It is meant to be a wake up call for you so you won't keep doing the same thing expecting a different result. My hope is that your videos get better, that they become interesting and full of real substance, and when they do? I'll be the first in line to subscribe. I AM rooting for you, I'm not trying to bring you down, but if no one else has the guts to tell you this, (or maybe doesn't see what I see) then I'll bite the bullet and be the d**k who does. In reality, it's me trying to do you a favor, not hurt you.

Just one thing that annoyed me was the intro: it was too long, drawn out, and it was static; it didn't build to anything. I believe that the average user subliminally decides whether they're going to watch the video within the first 10-15 seconds, so grab their interest immediately! Some people start talking for a few seconds, to give the viewer a feel of what they're going to say, then roll the intro. That way, you've grabbed their attention. Also, make the intro shorter: I'd say only a few seconds, no longer than five. I personally don't have any intro, but if you're using one, don't make it monotonous. It drives people away. First impressions really matter! :)

Sometimes I don't put all of that intro in the video. I wish I had a new intro because that one is getting kind of old. Here's today's video...

I like your videos. Your get your opinion across well, and the editing is very good. My same complaint stands though, they're a bit short for me.

Overall, I think that the length is pretty good. Maybe only a minute is too short, but 10-20 minutes is too long for daily vlogs. I think 3-5 minutes is a pretty good length for daily vlogs. I also much preferred the way you used the intro in this video :)

Dude I don't know if Lenny read all that but I did and all I can say is that I for one will take a lot of what you said as gold. You make a lot of sense and think that tons of youtubers could learn from what you said. You should do some kind of Vloggers pointer video. Hehe

Lenny I've been getting to know symp here and all I can say is that everything he said was to help you. I mean you have to take things people say with a grain of salt, but he has a point in my opinion.

Thank you for saying that stuff show, I spent alot of time writing that up with every intention of helping, but never again. I'm not going to give anymore full critiques like this, I made a thread that generally summarizes what will usually be the problems with people's vlogs if they want that kind of critique, but I'm not doing this again. It's just... even when you're trying to give someone a harsh truth to help them improve, I think the result is usually so negative that it doesn't make the person say "oh well now I'll work harder" it just makes them feel belittled and discouraged, I don't want to do that anymore.

PERHAPS, PERHAPS i could do what I did at soundclick, and open up a thread "symphonious' BRUTAL critiques!" And warn people in the thread I'll be extremely detailed and critical, but quite frankly I discovered today I've already made some peoples' opinion of me become very negative. So I'm not doing this again. But thanks stuffshow, I'm glad someone understands I spent time really trying to help.
