My Thoughts on Growing on YouTube

This is a great guide with lots of good tips that will really help a channel grow, there is one point i totally disagree with

Unless you have some major ways of showcasing your channel outside of YouTube, comments on YT are the primary way people will be exposed to your channel.

While you might get some views/subs from comments, and i do agree with you that it can help. It is in NO WAY the primary way people will be exposed to your channel. if it is, you are doing something wrong. Youtube search should be by far the primary source (unless you make the shared viral redditesque type videos) I would spend FAR more time on getting the right title and description, finding trends, finding niche's that you can rank well for than commenting

Almost all my traffic comes from comments that i have commented on other people's videos.. and it actually bothering me because i do all the tags and key words as i should and still my videos rarely come up on search /:

I've started to comment more on related videos - how do you track where the subscriber is coming from (i.e. how do I know if the subscriber came to me because of my comments?)

Commenting isn't primary for me, but I see the point in it. It's basically another way to get your face out there. If you contribute something in comments and a couple people watch/subscribe to you, they are more likely to comment/upvote on your comment. And they will remember you. Over time this will spread.

Like it or not, but numbers rule. A comment is going to get looked at more when it has more comments/upvotes. Pewdiepie could leave a comment on a video with just one letter, but you know it would have all the upvotes.
