Monetization Trouble

Hey guys, new to yttalk and fairly new to youtube. I'm just a regular adsense partner, not with any network.

So recently I've been doing some let's plays and walkthroughs of an Ubisoft game, I decided to try to monetize my videos which do have full commentary throughout them and they got denied pretty fast with youtube asking for visual rights. I had already looked into that and found a recently posted policy on making Ubisoft videos, unfortunately I can't post links but its not overly hard to find, a quick "ubisoft youtube Monetization" finds it pretty quickly. I read through it, and it seemed pretty clear to me that you were allowed to make these types of videos and monetize them using the partner program.
"You are free to monetize your videos via the YouTube partner program and similar programs on other video sharing sites."

So I sent in that as my visual rights document and got denied within a few hours with an email something along the lines of "Your documentation does not appear to give sufficient commercial rights for your video to participate in monetization."

So I'm a bit confused why these videos are being denied, I'm more interested in learning about what I will need to do in the future to monetize videos of this type or if its even possible without joining a network.

Thanks. :)

You need to have a full document to give them. You cannot just send them a quote, because they have no idea where that quote came from. Either reply with a link to this on their official website, or you need a signed legal document. Just some words of the wise though, don't monetize gaming videos without partnership. Eventually, your Adsense is bound to be disabled. Wait for a network.

I did send them the entire document, I just couldn't post the link here so I just quoted that part.
Did you tell them the exact line that says this? They are not going to read the whole thing. You have to say page 2 paragraph 5 line 2 (or wherever it was on here).

This is due to the fact that you didn't read the announcement carefully:

Specifically:

  • Do not take assets from our games (e.g. voice, music, items) and distribute them separately.
  • Unless approved by us, the use of our content in videos must be non-commercial.
  • Do not charge users to view or access your videos.
  • Do not sell or license your videos to others for a payment of any kind.
  • Behave like a decent human being. Absolutely no racist, sexist, homophobic, or offensive content.
  • Please keep your videos focused on our games, and away from overtly controversial topics.

Since you are monetising your videos you were denied.

EDIT: Wait. I was the one that didn't read carefully lol.
I saw the line about the partner program.

Did Ubisoft claim your video? Just because they said you can in an announcement doesn't mean that they don't have the right to stop you from monetising[DOUBLEPOST=1374821370,1374820953][/DOUBLEPOST]Did you send them this link like the announcement tells you to?

I think that should clear it up.

I gave them the link and directly after I quoted the part of the policy I quoted here, In the future I should quote and then tell them the paragraph and line it can be found I guess.

I'm assuming I would be notified if they claimed my video? I haven't gotten any emails and I'm in good standing still( not sure where that is shown). Yes I gave them the link to the forum post and send the pdf in as an attachment with the email.

But they still denied your monetisation?

Well there is your answer. Non commercial. You do not have the right to monetize. You can only upload.

But they still denied your monetisation?

Indeed they did, we exchanged a few emails. In the first I only gave them the pdf link which you mentioned, they denied it with a very automated looking generic response. They didn't really mention any reason why the document I send in wasn't valid, so I assumed they couldn't verify it was actually from ubisoft so I replied back with both the forum post and pdf as an attachment stating it was from their forum manager and that's when they send me. Hi,
Your documentation does not appear to give sufficient commercial rights for your video to participate in monetization.

I feel like they may have done the same as you and saw that first line about non-commercial use and quickly denied it, and just ignored the quote I had directly after.

Perhaps you should email them again, this time highlighting the part regarding YouTube monetisation?
