I've been editing since 2006 and I've done it on both platforms (Mac & Windows). While I think the software for either operating system gets the jobs done, I've just always been happier with the stability and reliability of my Mac computers. It just seems that after a couple of years I was ready to toss my Windows desktop or laptop, yet my Macs keep chugging along. Plus, I find when I go to get rid of my Windows computer they are not worth much on Craigslist, etc. However, my Macs retain a lot of value.

I just sold my 2011 17" MacBook Pro for $900. That's an unbelievable price for a 6 year old laptop.

But, you do pay a premium for Mac. I offset that by buying used. I buy a system that is still under extended warranty but not older than 2 years. I find it saves me 30-60% and makes the price much closer to Windows hardware.

I'm running two 2013 27" iMacs (loaded) and a 2015 15" MacBook Pro (loaded) right now. I upgrade about every 4-5 years.
