Common issues that keep you under 1,000 subscribers

So I've been using an intro bumper for all my videos, and seeing you talking about it being a bad idea got me thinking. Because I actually ended up recently extending it with a transition graphic because I didn't think it was professional enough.

I can kind of see this. There was one day I got a huge spike in views for a particular video, but all they watched on average was the first 15-30 seconds. By then more than half were gone. Seems like about 60-75% of viewers on most videos get a little past the intro (which is like 7 seconds long), then the other 50% drop off in the first 3-5 minutes, then by the end it's at like 10%. Retention is currently sitting at 1:57 (21%) overall.

This is true even for my video that got a decent amount of exposure (110 views).
Almost everyone was gone by the 3 minute mark.

However, a lot of people I've asked have said that the channel name and the "schiggity schiggity GameSchwa" jingle during the back half of the intro is catchy and original, so I have to ask.... is there any way to properly utilize branding like that without driving people off? I don't want to toss that all out completely, maybe just re-utilize it better.

Yes. The key is to make it no longer than 3 seconds long. Anything longer than that and you'll see your audience drop off. It also must add additional value to the viewer. If it's just something fancy that features your logo it doesn't really add anything to the experience for the viewer. Instead, use it to pitch your channel's "value proposition" to set the context for the video they're about to see.

That makes sense, like previously mentioned, I can definitely see the drop-off first-hand in the Audience Retention of each video.

I guess this is the part I'm not completely grasping. I'm guessing you mean that the intro is supposed to be more indicative of the kind of content you make than just to display the name of the channel?

Right. Look at the one on my channel, for example. It quickly sets the context for what my channel is about and why it matters. "Master YouTube. Spread your message. VideoCreatorsTV." Every video I do falls under that value prop. If someone is watching one of my videos for the first time they now have a basic idea of what my channel is about, what this video is about, and if they should subscribe for more videos like this.

Yeah, I think I need to go back to the drawing board for sure. That makes a lot of sense. Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions, I really appreciate it!

@evilmuska I noticed you have a gaming channel. As @Tim Schmoyer mentioned add a little teaser before the intro. This could me a snippet from the game e.g. the seconds before you win or get defeated. Something that is really eye catching.

I am new , i don't know how to get subsrcriber in channel , i am ever tried upload tv shows , but get strike issue , very bad , account youtube been disabled

It probably applies to less folks on these forums as it does the general mass of new YouTubers, but being unwilling to put in the work comes to mind too. You can't spend 30 minutes a day on YouTube and then run off to watch Netflix and expect anything other than 30 minutes worth of results.

The most true thing I've heard all day.

Wow! I've learned so much reading through this post! 12 pages later..I still cannot answer those two key questions. My videos are for..people who like the violin? I play a lot of traditional/folk music, and I suspect that the majority of the audience that appreciates that kind of music are older adults who also play instruments.

I would love to eventually create videos that tell stories rather than just play music in front of a camera, but I feel limited with what I can do as a one-man-band.. If I can get into a story-telling mode, perhaps more people could relate to the music and be a little more driven to share it. If I ever get this far, then the answer to the second bullet point might start to become a little clearer.

Hopefully the answers will come with time. I sort of assumed that I would need to jump on the music cover bandwagon to get anywhere, but I guess I'll find out!
