Can you use the instrumental of a actual songs as background music in your videos as long as you put a link in the description for the instrumental version?

could you do that and not get copyright claims against you?.??.

No, you cannot use any instrumental backing track on your videos and avoid copyright claims. Music has multiple layers of copyrights such as the lyrics, vocal recording, backing track, sheet music, melody, and entire mixed song. The only instrumental music that is free to be added to your videos are creative commons music that is licensed for adaptation and commercial use, and music in the public domain. There are many Royalty-free websites that have music tracks available for purchase to use with videos.

YouTube has expanded their Music Policies. They allow certain songs to be played in your videos, with their terms and conditions subject to change without notice. To check the policies of a song you have in question, you can search for it using this database:
