I've deleted a few cringeworthy videos over time, but there's no extra penalties from YouTube. Just check to see, is it still getting views? Are they coming from being embed in external sites, or from playlists? If that's the case I'm happy to leave them unlisted, especially if they are keeping people for a longer session time. If they are just really bad, but are still getting views from search, then I make a new video on the same subject to try and keep some of those views from search, etc, then I delete or unlist the old video in question.
